So basically the .15 radio removes the feature that kicks the phone down to 3G when the LTE site can't setup the 1x tunnel?

yes, pretty much the only downfall I found. Your phone would sit there connected to lte but unable to receive calls and texts.

Edit: the band 41 goodness is worth the risk. I've only encountered that issue with one tower

It does like to connect to donut sites...and those donut sites for me are having ecsfb issues as well. Hmm I think Ericsson has a reason for donut sites

Donuts are simply LTE sites with the authorization path for all devices turned off, that has nothing to do with CSFB.  There's usually an issue that needs correcting or an employee/crew that needs firing.

Maybe those are the sites I'm running into when I try the prl trick for b41 connectivity

You need a good donor site to hand you off into a donut site. Then you have to hold a constant data connection otherwise it kicks you off. A ping session works great.

So I finally unlocked and rooted the phone. I was able to back up all my app data and restore it to the way it was before hand (extremely handy since I hate setting up new phones from scratch)

So far, I flashed over the Dalvik and Bionic optimizations and installed Xposed Framework. I'll post an update later or some time tomorrow to see if it helps with any overall improvement.

P.S. If I had known how painless and easy it was to root a Nexus device I would be doing it in my sleep. So happy, there are one click methods :D

That was too close. Got a wild hair after lunch went to Play. Google. Com and was going to fill in CC info and hit buy but its slipped to shipping in 2 weeks verses 1-2 days. I guess I was ment to wait and see S5 official specs before I pull the trigger.

So I got my Nexus today, I am noticing it is connecting EV-DO and not the eHRPD. Cycling does not seem to change it. my EVO still Shows eHRPD

You have not enabled LTE in settings, or you have a SIM card authentication issue.  Those are the two most likely explanations.

Old news.. this rumor has popped up several times over the past couple of years. Several sites "confirmed" that the Nexus 4 would be the final one, including the same Russian blogger that this article is sourcing. Guess they pulled a TV weatherman on that one..

    • I think the push for them is adding US Mobile as a MVNO with a priority data plan.  Ultimately, making people more aware of priority would allow them (and other carriers) to differentiate themselves from MVNOs like Consumer Cellular that advertise the same coverage. n77 has dramatically reduced the need for priority service at Verizon where the mere functioning of your phone was in jeopardy a couple of years ago if you had a low priority plan like Red Pocket. Only have heard of problems with T-Mobile in parts of Los Angeles. AT&T fell in between. All had issues at large concerts and festivals, or sporting events if your carrier has no on-site rights. Edit: Dishes native 5g network has different issues: not enough sites, limited bandwidth. Higher priority would help a few. Truth is they can push phones to AT&T or T-Mobile.
    • Tracfone AT&T sims went from QCI 8 to 9 as well a couple years ago. I'm pretty neutral towards AT&T's turbo feature here, the only bad taste left was for those who had unadvertised QCI 7 a couple months ago moved down to 8. In my eyes it would have been a lot better for AT&T to include turbo in those Premium/Elite plans for free to keep them at QCI 7, while also introducing this turbo add on option for any other plans or devices. As it stands now only a handful of plans can add it, and only if you're using a device on a random list of devices AT&T considers to be 5G smartphones.
    • My Red Pocket AT&T GSMA account was dropped to QCI 9 about a year ago.  Most recently 8 for the last few years prior.  Voice remains at 5.
    • https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/05/att-announces-7-monthly-add-on-fee-for-turbo-5g-speeds/ Hopefully we don't ever see T-Mobile do something like this. Based on how I was treated with my Credit Limit, it's definitely not the same company it was before the merger, and it's entirely possible they'd try it.
