Google Nexus 5 by LG Users Thread!

If this kind of question is more suited for xda than here I understand. I noticed on the new unlimited my way plans that streaming video will probably be throttled. Since this is a nexus is there some kind of workaround to this?

Any throttling is done at the network end, not on the device. And as far as I know, there have been no reports of throttling actually happening on postpaid LTE; Sprint reserves the right to do so, but thus far has not.

Not that 1Mbit/sec H.264 or VP8 would look bad on a 5-inch screen anyway.

So I ordered a Nexus 5 and I'll be getting it on Thursday. I called Sprint to ask about the SIM card issue, as I've heard multiple things from multiple people. The rep told me to order it online from Google Play but I don't see it anywhere. What's the real deal for this SIM? I want to be able to use it right away and not have to wait a week to get it in the mail. And will it connect to TD-LTE out of the box (I live in a Spark area) or is there any tinkering with it to be done first?

I think the best way to get a sim is to go to a sprint store. Some people have had some luck calling the International sprint line but I'm not sure many have actually received then in the mail even though the person on the line said they ordered one.

Got my phone today. Walked into the Sprint corporate store, they put the SIM in the phone for me and sent me on my way to do on-line activation.

either way.... i don't believe anyone here wants to lock themselves into a more restrictive plan in the off chance that they eventually hold you to the letter of the law of the T&C's.  and you know they will, or at least reserve the right to do so. no thank you.

Anyone have any idea why Sprint TV isn't allowed on the Nexus 5? Maybe it is and I'm missing something. I thought all Sprint users were paying in part to have that feature.

Perhaps because since it's not a Sprint specific/locked device, they can't ensure that you are in fact a Sprint user will using the app. Just a thought.

Wait, people still use sprint tv?

One thing I've noticed is that the screen on low brightness tends to have a yellow tinge to it.

Just admit it.  You accidentally dropped it in the toilet.

:P

Looks like you got one of the newer, revised models:

...

Shinral also noted that the newer revision's display has more of a yellow tint, though it's unclear whether or not LG is using a completely different display moving forward or if the particular unit in question just happened to be slightly unbalanced compared to other models.

It's most likely a byproduct of looking at the screen through a Corona bottle. Well, being from Miami, perhaps more like looking through a Land Shark bottle.

I compared it with a model they had in the store, and it definitely is a different display. The store model has a much neutral white, I'm not sure if I should return it or something :/ I don't want to have a yellow screen :(

So, I've been sticking with the newest radio, just to give it a try, and I'm going to throw another negative opinion of it out there.

Now, it could be the network in my area, but just it seemed like this started happening about the time I switched radios.  I'm still not getting LTE (not expecting to though), however, now I'm also dropping to 1x quite a bit in places I had a 3G signal before, places I've never noticed dropping to 1x with any of my three previous phones.

Looks like I'll be flashing back to the 4.4 one if things don't look up in a couple of days.

Oh I would take that back in a heartbeat.

I did a bit of research on the issue and it seems to be that the glue they use is slow to dry so it affects the display quality. The solution is to wait one week till it dries. Funny enough is I only have time on the weekends so it'll be one week when I can take it in.

So I've noticed today that the yellow tint isn't as strong as it was yesterday. It also seems to be more on the left side than the right side.

Or maybe I'm just having some placebo effect atm. Still gonna go back on Saturday to exchange it if anything.

A few iphones had issues like this last year,  the problem seemed to fix itself over time for many people while others just exchanged it.

Luis has clearly been listening to too much Coldplay through his Nexus 5...

He needs to play more Eiffel 65 to even out the color tone to white...
