my sister's N5 will randomly just SHUT OFF every 1-2 days at random times of the day.  just started the last couple weeks.

has anyone else ran into this and possibly know why?  i am about to flash the factory image to it.

on a side note, after google releases the 4.4.3 update, how long before the factory image is available for download or do they post it immediately?

Is it still completely stock? If so that sounds like a hardware issue to me, I'd guess overheating.

Faulty hardware causing the CPU to ramp up? Has she had issues with the camera bug? That keeps the CPU running higher than it needs to(which is why it drains battery) which could cause it to overheat.

Certain cases can also contribute to overheating (the main one I've noticed is defenders from otter box).

Is the device in a pocket or other enclosed space when it shuts off? This device can be shut off by holding (or leaning against) the power button long enough.

It can even be caused by the normal camera apps or any app that can access the camera. Textra randomly causes it to occur for me even when I haven't used it to take or send a photo.

If it were me I'd install better battery states and check the CPU usage for a couple battery cycles. It it doesn't show anything then I'd fax I try reset. If that doesn't fix it the you've probably got faulty hardware.

thanks guys i'll flash the factory image and start from scratch on it.  back to my other question, when google drops 4.4.3, how long before we can download the image?

I've seen a similar issue in a GS4.  Likely a defect.

I'm probably wrong but I think once it's posted we get it within 24 hours from what I remember reading on here.

as soon as someone "in the know" gets it it will be up on AP or xda, if it isn't posted immediately by google.

Why do all the physical stores sell the n5 for around $100 more than google? Does anyone know any stores selling it for the $349? I think I want to pick one up, but I hate ordering things online. I'm impatient.

Because Google subsidizes the price to increase sales. Other retailer do not get the Google discount.

Get best buy to price match amazon. My N5 was free (actually -$5.xx) after the extra $50 mobile freedom offer. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

I'm pretty sure he means purchasing outright. That's one of the best parts of buying the N5, the price is within striking range of purchasing it without any contract.

Best Buy price matched my Nexus 5 with Google play. While I do work there, I wasn't the first person to ask and have it done. They had price matched other nexus devices with Google play in the past.

Best buy matches prices because when customers "save" money there instead of having to order online they're likely to buy cases and stuff in store. That's where they really make money.

Source: I was a lead at best buy/common sense.

Have you had any luck with your signal dropping since the other day?

Not really, it never was a significant amount of time though. It was maybe 3-4 times a day at most. I haven't been off my home tower yet though, so I'll check when I go into town and get some LTE love and see if that affects anything.

Bust Buy refused to match the price on my GN3.  Sprint sold it for $699.  Bust buy sold it for $799.  They said it was too much of a difference.  I ended up buying it from Amazon when it was on sale for $704.  With Amazon, I get points on my credit card towards future purchases.  I am not a fan at all of Bust Buy.

You must have gotten one of the rare ignorant employees. They explicitly instruct them to get a manager instead of saying no. The one I worked at was in the top 40 in sales for the country so we did a bit more than others to get sales. Personally I'm a fan of shopping where you get the best deal, period.

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
