Here's anandtech's (brian klugs) very thorough write up on the nexus 5.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7517/google-nexus-5-review

Things to take away from it

- Screen is the most accurate of all androids

- Pretty good battery life

- camera hardware = fantastic but it's the software that's lacking

More in the article.

If you aren't taking pics with HDR+, you aren't taking pics at all.

it's slow, but only way to currently get a decent shot with the N5.

Turn on HDR+ and take that same photo.

That was HDR+ lol.  I'll concede that the second photo actually turned out fairly well though.

Is that sarcasm with the washed out sky you have there in the photo?

Indeed!

if you are still completely stock, download the ota zip file and manually apply via adb

reboot device to recovery, with !triangle press power + volume up

go to side load

plug phone into usb, open a command prompt and make sure you can see the device;

- adb devices

if your device successfully shows up

type adb sideload otaupdatefilename.zip

Yes, for now I do.. the stock HTC app on my EVO LTE worked well for me, I didn't realize the stock Android one was so different. I don't need anything crazy, but it's lacking some features I need. I plan on trying third-party apps like K9.

-Mike

I would recommend trying third party apps because in my experience the stock one is terrible.

Be warned this ota takes a long time to boot up if you are using ART, almost 20 minutes for mine.

about info:

nexus 5

android version 4.4.1

baseband m8974a-1.0.25.0.23

kernel 3.4.0-gadb2201

build kot49e

I forgot to write down the previous baseband so I don't know if it was updated

Soulcalibur actually runs now instead of a black screen.

according to the kernel compile date, it took 2 weeks and a day from compile to release.

Man talk about super simple. TWRP backed up the system and data super fast even with compression turned on. I wrote the ota zip with TWRP then flashed SuperSU root right behind. Done. Love it!

So all you have to do is flash the ota zip and super su? If so that's very easy. I used to wait a few hours until someone extracted the whole ROM and dirty flash the updated base.

As long as you haven't modified the system partition files or kernel you are good to go. I only rooted and installed twrp on mine. The update doesn't care if you are unlocked or have a custom recovery.

I did go in and delete stuff like Google drive, play managzines, etc does that count?

possibly.

it depends on whether the update checks for and/or modifies those files on the system partition.

To receive the update did you have to purchased the phone from sprint or will the Google play edition receive it today as well?

no.

All nexus 5 are 'google play edition' even if they come from sprint or tmo.
