I know, I take the Lincoln Tunnel every day coming into the city to go to work. For the most part, it works fine through the tunnel, at least, my Pandora/Spotify doesn't get interrupted.

I have been hearing a lot about LTE-Advanced . Does anyone here know what it is ? I just read an article that said that T-Mobile would be getting LTE-Advanced by the end of the year .

LTE-Advanced is a number of features like MIMO, Carrier Aggregation, etc that makes more efficient usage of spectrum and allows increased data speeds thanks to more efficient usage of spectrum. It's a number of features and there's no one set design parameter to have a network that is LTE-Advanced. Really depends on what features you want.

For example, Sprints setup can make use of carrier aggregation immediately with just a simple software update. In that sense, Sprints network is thus LTE-Advance ready as carrier aggregation is one of LTE-A's features.

Great lte speed in steinway and broadway area in queens. Loving the new app: signalcheck pro. It costs like two dollars but great app to keep track of the signal location for 1x and signal strength.

That's a great report though, since you are actually walking and physically handing off on sites, vs driving, where you could skip a site or two.

I wonder if the Clear network is ready in NYC yet. I know, Clear likes to boast about their network in NYC, SF, and Chicago. I hope those markets are where most of the 2000 completed Clear towers are.

I know personally, my experience with Clear has been nothing but great, I hope their LTE network is not a disappointment.

I'm waiting for this CDMA 1x 800 juiciness. Better for my texts while I'm inside.

Just got back home and I've noticed that my iPhone has been reading 3G at 106 db. I've been home for about an hour now and I've cycled airplane mode.

You're not expecting to pick up 800 today are you? Not gonna happen. Probably not this week. Maybe by next week. It will take some time for them to actually shut down all the Nextel towers. The switch, backbone, for the network is gone, so it's unusable, but the towers are likely still broadcasting signal which means 800 can't be turned on just yet.

Oh no not at all.

I just think that the signal is a bit off where I live right now possibly because of it. I'm not sure if my iPhone will even connect to it because of the PRL.

If I remember correctly, Digiblur explained that the PRL on the IPhone 5 (he explained it for 51096 but mine reads 51097 now which is probably a small and negligible change) will scan for LTE first, then EvDo, and finally SMR. So I would really have to be lacking signal to catch a glimpse of it.

LTE and EVDO are different than PCS 1x and SMR 1x. Your iPhone will scan for PCS 1x before SMR 1x, that much is true. At least for the time being, that's the way the iPhone PRL is setup.

Ah, thanks for the clarification!

How will we know once we are on a 800 tower? Any way to check because I'm getting better service now. Any way to check on iphone?

In the engineering screen I think you can see what band you are on. For 800, you're looking for band 10. However it's fairly likely your iPhone will not be utilizing 800, since the iPhone PRL still prioritizes PCS over SMR.

Is there anyway I could prioritize smr over pcs or will I have to wait for a new prl? Also I think I'm on band 25, that's what enginerring screen said, so I assume that's pcs?

Yes that's PCS. I know on Androids it's fairly easy to load a custom PRL. I don't know about iPhones. There are several PRL threads on here. I'm sure you could find something on one of those.

Has LTE gone dead for anyone in NYC?  I'm guessing my situation is unique, but I can't get an LTE signal at all anymore.  I live in Spanish Harlem and work in the Bronx and rarely do NOT have an LTE signal.

However, last Thursday, if my phone is in LTE/CDMA mode the data drops.  And nothing happens.  SignalCheck shows that I have an EVDO connection, but the 3G icon won't appear, and there's nothing for LTE.  PRL update does nothing.

So, I have to keep my phone in CDMA only mode.  Which is fine because the 3G is usable off of the NV towers, but it's frustrating. And a call to Sprint is pointless because they haven't officially launched LTE yet in NYC, I get some BS answer.

I'm guessing I may need to do a factory reset as something screwed up recently, maybe an app, but I wanted to check here first to see if I'm alone.
