The MXPE is on my radar to replace my ailing Nexus 5.  Other than wireless charging, is there anything the MXPE DOES NOT have that the Nexus 5 does?

I don't get the surprise of not being able to put the unactivated Sprint SIM in the device and get it to work automatically. His Tmo, AT&T and VZW SIMs are already activated on accounts. Of course they can just be inserted right in. My unactivated AT&T SIMs do not boot up either until activated and linked.

 

I have to call in on AT&T too to activate a new SIM card. That always has to be done, because the SIM card won't know which account to connect to. This is a never been used Sprint SIM card. Needs to be linked to an account.

 

Since the Moto X SIM is a CSIM, once it has been registered to your account, you should be able to hot swap in the future with other CSIM compatible devices that are in the Sprint database.

That's why I said...should. Sprint is implementing it. We don't know if it's implemented now or in the process of being implemented. We will need someone try to swap their Moto X PE CSIM into another Sprint white listed device that can use this same Nano CSIM. Possibly even another MXPE.

I honestly do not care about CSIM hot swapping.  I would rather each of my devices have its own SIM.  Making the swap online from my Sprint.com account takes all of three minutes.  No big deal.  No SIM removal tool or tiny 4FF nano SIM involved.

I hear you.  Online phone activation never worked on my account previously.  But it did almost seamlessly for the Moto X Style -- once I had the correct SIM and seemingly all IMEI/MEIDs had been whitelisted.

 

So, you may be operating off of old experience.  You may want to try again soon to see if circumstances have changed.

Online activation/swap has worked for me since my HTC M7. Worked for my N5, M8, G3, and G4 (all bought off contract). In the past I routinely swapped devices, mainly when I would go back to the N5 for band testing purposes.

And you have hit the nail on the head once again.  With all the different SIM cards size and types, it really is actually easier and more effective to manage device switches online than hotswapping SIM's.  Until we get down to one universal style and size, hotswapping isn't the convenience it's made out to be.  I still seem to have to call AT&T when I switch devices most of the time.

 

I've not had a problem changing devices online with Sprint since I stopped using WiMax devices.  Swapping between WiMax and LTE devices always caused me to have to deal with customer service.

eSIM is the future, folks. It is going to be real interesting to see how this shakes out. If it is done right it should give you the ability to swap out not just accounts but maybe even carriers.

Also, the chop twist gesture to turn on the camera flash as a flashlight. Dose that work with a pin/pattern lock?

You need a new sim card. The exact same one the HTC m9 uses.

True, but I'd rather have one just incase. I ordered the Moto coverage plan( don't remember the name off the top of my head) but I have to have a phone for my job to reply to emails and phone calls. Moto says they will send a phone before you send a broken one. If it breaks to the point of no use or a manufacturer error/defect. I can just swap back into my note 4 for the mean time.

Yup, the flashlight works when the screen is off, or the phone is locked.

Sweet, thanks. Many times I've need to use my note as a flashlight( for a few seconds or temporarily to find a actually flash light) I'd have to wake the screen, unlock it, then turn it on. Witch takes around 5 seconds give or take.

No problem.

You can also pull down the quick settings bar and turn on the flashlight as another option.
