Looks like a micro SIM. The biggest question I have about that is whether or not you can use your existing micro SIM

nope.

Anyways. Sprint support just gave me a lovely morning call regarding my preorder. My CC is processed and they're shipping out the first order batch in the next few hours  and i should get a tracking # within 24 hours. :D I guess the lil premium over the play store is worth the headache of waiting 4 weeks...

Order date was:

Order date: Oct 31, 2013 2:02:36 PM EDT

At first had an estimated shipping date of Nov 5th but then I got the email that my order had shipped later on in the night at 12:41am.

Hope this helps to extrapolate on your situation  :)

My order was placed a few minutes after it was made official. Google wallet says the time of the order is 1:08pm...my status is still pending.

2-day

I messed up picking standard shipping with the majority of people picking 2-day shipping (most likely), I won't see shipping status until sometime in the beginning of next week.  :td:

This is what I get for not being by my computer all day.

Truuuuuuu, but, you will (*per internal Sprint docs) need the UICC SIM to activate the device on the network. No activation, no nothing.  (*Well, I guess there is always wifi. Lol)

What do I have to do to prepare to activate my nexus 5 when it arrives?

Well I just called my local Sprint Repair center and this is what they told me. They are going to have SIM cards available, but don't have any yet. They are hoping to have them middle of next week, as they just received a Sprint internal communication about it this morning. The guy told me they only have 5 SIM cards on order to come into the store, and did not know if there was going to be a charge for them.

Ok so supposedly Google debuted a new wireless charging pad yesterday along with the Nexus 5 and it was supposed to be available yesterday according to Engadget:

http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/31/google-wireless-charging-pad/

Does anyone know anything about it? Cant find any mention of it on the Play Store etc.

On another similar note, instead of this if I get the Nokia wireless charging plate, it should still work on my Nexus 5 correct?

How do we even get a SIM card? Just go to a Sprint store and ask for one?

In that case is it micro SIM or nano SIM?

PER INTERNAL DOCS (and posted previously in the last 2 pages) you will need to head to a corp Sprint store to have them *give you" the UICC SIM card that is required to activate the device on the Sprint Network.

The card is a micro (from all reports BUT docs didn't specify) and I would imagine if you have a UICC (micro) SIM card in a device already, such as an HTC One, that you could pull that out and actually put into the N5 and have someone at Sprint activate over the phone.  The UICC SIM they will give you to activate in store is at no charge to you, so the only problem I'm thinking would/could be limited supply of these cards.  Each location was being (*per doc) sent 5 cards "ahead of or on" the Nov 8th launch date.  I'm sure they'll be able to get more but this is what is in the initial info.

*I don't know if "repair shops" or 3rd party stores will be doing it this way or have cards on hand to do this stuff.

Looking for opinions:

I'm off contract on the SERO-P in the Detroit Metro area (NO LTE).

Would you:

A.  Buy this on the Google Play store for $440 shipped

B.  Buy this for $200-ish (32GB) and renew the 2-year contract.

I can't see myself leaving Sprint (even though LTE hasn't arrived yet), but for $200 would it be worth it to have the unlocked phone?

I don't plan on doing the iPhone upgrade and sell on Ebay trick.

And I know this has been asked a few times, but what are the chances Sprint will put their own software on this phone.  That might be worth $200 right there.

Thanks all.

Wait, are you reading the comments? That's always a bad idea.

Any device that's never been activated on the network will incur an activation charge. It may or may not be charged right away, or may show up on your bill at a later day.

Its true! I just got confirmation along with it being noted in my account that it will be waived. Was also told that if a phone is bought from the manufacture, Sprint won't charge any activation fee. Great way to avoid that fee.

Ordered minutes 4 mines later, and nothing.

But I'm not worried when it will come, just as long as it comes in those 3 to 5 business days, I'm good.

I'm pretty sure iPhones purchased at the Apple Store have an activation fee, and they are a manufacturer.  The only waiver of activation fee I'm still aware of on Sprint is if you have the Credit Union discount.

Thanks, mrrogers. I've read all that, and I know that's what Sprint is saying and what Sprint employees are being told. What I don't understand is why an existing UICC wouldn't work.

I guess I'm really more curious about why it wouldn't work more than I'm asking asking will it work.

I got the same bizarre call around 7am. Not sure why it was necessary since they asked for info I'd already given them on the preorder page...

Also, what premium, aside from re-upping your contract?

Did they tell you the first batch would be shipping soon? My order status still says they'll try to have them to us by the 8th and I must have been one of the very first people to preorder from Sprint.

Or company that you work for has that in the agreement. Not sure then; I know it wasn't some random rep telling me this though.

    • Uploaded data without issues on Friday. Now with the latest update I am getting "Cluster #1 skipped: invalid file format detected. File exported for inspection." Doing same with all other clusters. Did this on 4 phones in a row.  Seems to work on s24 ultra just fine. On s21 ultra it says "web data upload failed. No data to send" although 8800 records were displayed. Now gives same error as above. I have not sent the data from 3 other phones.  All should have latest update.
    • After several months of testing, an update to SignalCheck Pro is rolling out on Google Play. It may take up to 48 hours to become available for download. Notable changes include: Added option to display site notes for NSA 5G-NR cells. Enabling this new option (Preferences > Display Settings > Show NSA 5G-NR Site Notes) will cause the app to make an "educated guess" as to what the most appropriate site note is linked to the connected NSA 5G cell, using the PCI and the device location. If it finds an existing entry that is likely to be relevant, it will display the note along with the distance from where the strongest signal from that cell was logged. While connected to NSA 5G, these notes cannot be edited; a valid NCI is required to add/edit notes and that information is not available on NSA connections.   Added option to log cells with missing/invalid PLMN (such as NSA 5G-NR cells). Users asked for the ability to log data for NSA 5G, so a new option (Preferences > Logger Settings > Log Cells with Missing PLMN) will permit this.   Added option to display LTE info above 5G-NR info. Enabling this new option (Preferences > Display Settings > Show LTE Cells Above 5G-NR Cells) shows the same information that is currently displayed, but moves the LTE information above the 5G-NR information. Other changes: Code optimizations and enhancements. Improved Android 15 compatibility. Overhauled Purchases module. Resolved force closes impacting some GSM/LTE connections. Resolved issue with improper 5G-NR PLMN display when NR/LTE PLMNs did not match. Resolved issue with improper PLMN display with single-digit MNCs. Resolved issue with incorrect 5G-NR bands displayed on some devices due to Android bug. Resolved issue with incorrect number of neighbor cells displayed when some cells were unknown. Resolved issue with missing 5G-NR data when sector display is enabled. Resolved issue with saving 5G-NR site notes when NR/LTE PLMNs did not match. Resolved issue with settings to log missing GCI/NCI/TAC/PLMN being ignored. Resolved issues with web data export function. Updated internal libraries. Updated provider database. Updated target API to Android 15. I appreciate all of your support, and a big thank you to the members of the Beta Crew that help with testing and feedback!
    • Oct security update is out.
    • Stopped by again today and the antennas are up but it isn't live just yet. If other Sprint conversions are anything to go by it'll likely take about a month for the site to go live.
    • It is an Android bug that was reportedly fixed in August 2023 but definitely has not been. I have implemented numerous workarounds in SCP to correct the NR bands the app displays. The OS ignores the possibility that many NR-ARFCNs are valid across multiple bands.. it reports the lowest NR band that is valid for the current ARFCN. In your example, channel 432530 can be n1, n65, or n66.. so the OS just (lazily) reports n1.   Awesome, thanks! I will add an n65 override also.
