Is no one worried that activating with Sprint will lock the phone in?

Isnt that how the iPhone 5s works? Universal phone, but once you activate, youre locked in?

Or am I completely wrong?

If you buy it from google they can't lock you in , but if you buy it from sprint( subsidies) then u are locked for 2 years

That "line" is locked into a contract, not the phone. Take SIM out, put T-mobile SIM in and do what you please but you're gonna keep paying for that line or be subject to ETF.

oowee getting this UICC card with an Employee account is almost next to impossible.  I finally got someone to order one for me but its being shipped 3-5 days.  Tried to get another one overnighted but can't find anyone who knows how to order one for an employee account.  Phone comes tomorrow, and I'll try the store but otherwise looks like I won't have a fully functioning nexus 5 until later this week.

Just got my shipping confirmation also even though it said it would not ship until November 15.

Google learned their lessons from the Nexus 4 launch. They were probably waiting for the LG to manufacture enough units before release.

No confirmation yet for mine, but the details page of my order now says it shipped. I guess I can get excited now...

And figure out where to get my SIM.

I looked through the thread and I don't think anyone has asked this but I have been using Google Play gift cards to pay for apps and such. Can you also use the gift cards on hardware such as the Nexus 5? I have almost $50 in my play store account and want to make sure I can use that if I decide to purchase the phone.

Thanks

Gift cards can not be used on hardware.

Thanks, one more question... When you buy a phone from the play store, will sprint still charge an activation fee on it?

Call SERO telesales at 18888824030 and then they will transfer you to international. It was pretty easy once they got their collective shit together at HQ.

I was told mine would not ship until Nov 22nd but I also got a shipping confirmation email today.  Woohoo!  Guess I gotta get off my ass and get that SIM pronto.

Just ordered the 16 GB white version tonight. Already have the G2 coming on Friday. Looks like an early Christmas for me! :tu:

When do you think you will get yours? Keep us updated so that we have an idea how long it will take us late buyers to get the phone!

Yeah I tried that and then International transfers me back to Employee Services.  International has a ticket open and is supposed to get back to me once they find out why Employee Services is not able to complete the request.  According to the supervisor over in Employee Services its not there job and only telesales can complete the request.  Telesales transfers me to International and the loop starts over.  Such a mess.

I want to caution people against bugging customer care too much or going apeshit over the SIM concern.  Let it all play out.  The Nexus 5 may be shipped with a SIM that you can use.  Regardless, you will be able to activate the handset on Sprint, but you may need to exercise some patience.

This is the first cash and carry, unlocked Sprint handset in many years.  Do not raise a ruckus and make Sprint question the decision to run with Google on this one.  Like VZW, Sprint can just as easily decide to sit this one out next time.  Then, we are back to the safe, easy to manage "walled garden" of devices.

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
