Holly chit! I go away for like 5 hours and the world is collapsing....

Yup. I was driving (well, I was a passenger) through rural PA on unusable Verizon 1x roaming. I pop back into native Sprint 3G and suddenly there's 50 notifications from this thread alone and the title changed. :$

C'mon, David! Imagine the fun road trips! The I-70 series!

As if the Royals-Cardinals Chiefs-Rams split isn't enough to deal with down here in Springfield.... LOL

Anyway...

I've never heard of Marcelo Claure before. In my brief Wikipedia overview, looks like an interesting choice. What do people know about him?

I hope the new CEO works to get every market at least 95% complete so that everyone can share in the NV 1.0 upgrades. Also, I was really worried that Sprint was going to stop the network rollout if they were allowed to merge with T-mobile because of comments made by Alcatel-Lucent. http://in.reuters.com/article/2014/07/31/alcatel-lucent-results-idINL6N0Q61N620140731

I completely missed that, but I suspect that may have been just a warning in case it did happen.

Sad to see Hesse go, but network vision 1.0 was his last shot to get it done. Once it fell behind of schedule sprint image took a beating. All the tech blogs, and trolls were saying sprint never deliver on its promise etc etc.

I wonder what happened to not only drop the bid but get rid of Hesse too??? Then on top of that have a replacement already..??? The new brings a younger face... This didn't just happen today.. Or yesterday.

Agree.

Flip side is nv1.0 did fall short and the buck stops at the CEO - talking about Spark, I don't think helped that perception. Where AT&T and VZW followed by TMO did deliver. I know all the differences and how much more of a technical hurdle sprint had and they have done great. But perception is reality....

Perhaps Hesse wanted an exit strategy and merger on or merger off was the milestone for that to happen? Nothing says this isn't happening on his terms.

You mean he uses technology? Insanity! Legere and him can have a twitter war.

No thank you. Mr Marcelo please don't come down to Legere's level of immaturity.

I'm starting to like Marcelo more and more with everything I read about him. For instance, his LinkedIn profile lists a lot of achievements and involvement in the Hispanic community.

According to Pew, the Hispanic population in the United States has increased in America six-fold since the 1970's:

The Hispanic population grew to 53 million in 2012, a 50% increase since 2000 and nearly six times the population in 1970, according to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau data. Meanwhile, the overall U.S. population increased by only 12% from 2000 to 2012. Hispanic population growth accounted for more than half of the country’s growth in this time period.

It makes me wonder if this kind of outreach is what Son sees as a tremendous growth opportunity with Sprint.

He's Bolivian. He revamped their sad sack global football team then built up Brightstar.

In other words, he's someone with a serious entrepreneurial track record.
