This phone performs better than my nexus 5 as far as connecting frequently to LTE sites. Seems like it scans for them more often.

Interesting.  I ran my G3 and my Nexus 5 (KitKat 4.4.4 ".16" radio) side by side on the way home from work today and they both seemed to drop LTE and pick it up within 10 seconds of each other.  I was running SCP with the audible alerts turned on.  The radios perform almost identically.  Now the Nexus 5 with the old .17 radio is a different story.  B25 LTE holds on so much better with .17 on my Nexus 5.

I have an unscientific test to test LTE scan time.

 

1. Be in a spot where you know for sure there is LTE coverage

2. Force the phone over to 3G only in network settings

3. Put it back on LTE mode and start a stopwatch.

 

My nexus 5 took a full 8 minutes to switch to LTE. The G3 is typically under a minute.

I recall seeing an LTE scan timer under ##DATA# and viewing LTE. I think it's default is 5 minutes. The intervals were likely the same but not in sync.

My nexus held on to B25 longer with the .17 radio as well, but it was annoying because these fringe signals were seldom usable for data and connecting to a closer 3G tower was faster. I was happy when they upgraded the radio.

If you look closely at the flap on the otter box, when holding it open, you can see it offers no resistance to the cord as it's being plugged in. I've checked because I didn't want my cord to become so loose that it would not hold the cord tightly.

Maybe from jcase, but I know there are at least two other groups of people trying to get root for our phone right now. That said, it could still obviously take quite awhile.

Interested to hear what issues you were having. My G3 has been flawless minus the battery drain issue, which seems to be getting slightly better with time.

Coming from an LG G2, battery was a lot worse the first few days with the G3.  Now my battery drain with low usage is about the same or slightly better than the LG G2.  This is also probably because the Qualcomm Battery Guru app has finished learning my habits and is now active (I also had this on my G2)

 

With the wifi calling feature, when I'm at home my battery standby time is amazing because I'm only connected to wifi.

On another note, the camera on this G3 is amazing. I was able to grab some amazing low-light shots and 4K video at the Dave Matthews Show in Jax 2 nights ago. My iPhone 5S buddies were in shock. Amazing quality for such a small sensor. Lots of noise reduction, but still impressive with the amount if detail retained.

 

What really impressed me was the 4K video quality. Wow.

      Yep, there is a label on the side of the box but it doesn't provide any useful info that the city doesn't already provide (Crown Castle Solutions is the franchisee). You can see my graphical interpretation of the city's dataset here.

      Totally agree.  In my county and surrounding counties, TM did not place n-41 on every site.  When I look at the sites in question, I probably would have not placed it there either.  I can find just a few with n-71 only and in most of those cases if you live there and know the probable usage of the residents, you would not do a full upgrade on those sites.  One site in particular is set up to force feed n-71 through a long tunnel on the Turnpike.  No stopping allowed in the tunnel. No stores, movie theaters, bathrooms, so n41 would be a waste.    n25 is not really needed either, so it is not there.  The tunnel is going through & under a mountain with more black bears than people.  TM was smart.  Get good coverage in the tunnel but do not waste many many thousands of dollars with extra unused spectrum. I also see sites with only n71 & n25.  Again this makes sense to me.  Depending on what county we are talking about, they moved much of their b25 from LTE to nr.  Some counties have more n25 than a neighboring county, but luckily, it is plenty everywhere.   When you are in a very rural area, n41 can run up the bills and then be barely used.  I am NOT finding sites that should have had n41 but TM failed to provide it.  They may have to come back later in a few years and upgrade the site to n41.  However, we just may eventually see the last little piece on Band 25 leave LTE and move to n25. I am not sure if the satellite to phone service is using band 25 G block as LTE or nr. We also can possibly have at least some AWS move from LTE to nr at some point.  Yes, everybody wants n41. it is not justified in some cases.  When I travel, I desire some decent service along the entire route but it does not have to be 1 or 2 gig download.   If I can get 50/5 on a speedtest with data that will flow and not stutter, I am very happy. Yes, they will swap out the USC gear.  TM needs to match their existing network. The USCC equipment did the job for years, but it is time to retire it.
