Google Nexus 5 by LG Users Thread!

I'm not sure if any other nexus 5 users have experienced this but often my phone goes from LTE to global. Even with LTE available. Sometimes after I update the roaming and prl.

Either one is fine unless you sometimes use non-CDMA providers. "LTE" is the equivalent of changing your radio to LTE/CDMA mode and "Global" is LTE/GSM/CDMA mode. It won't negatively affect anything if you have it set to Global on Sprint.

Anyone having battery drain issues with Battery Guru? Last friday my phone didn't make it till 5 pm. Battery Guru was not doing it's job, but rather devouring the battery. I uninstalled it, and the phone got through a whole weekend day with over 50% Sat & Sun.

Maybe something went haywire.

I think we have a winner! Been on .15 and I've been connecting to b41 all day no problems.

I've had a hunch that .15 had spark enabled for testing but got disabled in the .17/.23 updates for whatever reason. Thanks! If some more people could flash the .15 baseband to Double check.

Edit: if possible try for screenshots too!

Great to see! Did you have to do the prl trick to latch on, or was it by itself?

I just flashed the .15 baseband over .23(was deciding between .15 and .17 but the xda thread pointed to .15 being a bit better) and I still don't have LTE down this stretch of i44 but I did see a 8-10dbm increase in signal strength for 1x and evdo/eHRPD.

Where are you at in Union? I doubt if B41 is out that way. There is however a B25 tower active in Union.

Not true. It's a ymmv situation. Posted Image

Did you have to do the prl trick or just an airplane toggle?

You know I'm the one that inadvertently discovered the prl / profile update '' trick'' right....?

yeah I know haha the difference was that he connected with just an airplane toggle. Which may not of even been necessary if he waited until an LTE scan.

As long as I get into range it'll automatically switch. Anything that resets the radio require a PRL update in order to get onto B41.

Airplane mode doesn't really help out unless you're between scan intervals.

I was thinking some more test would need to be done, but this may be able to avoid having to do the prl update. I know I have a custom prl, for 1x800, so a prl update would kill 1x800. But I am just going based on what I have seen myself going between .17 and .15. I never saw .17 scan the other bands before I tried the prl trick. .15 though I noticed scans all bands without the trick.

Edit: I just flashed .17, and without the prl update, it only searched b25. I reflashed .15, booted up, and instantly it was scanning all of the other bands. Both were on LTE mode only.

It would be interesting to compare the .15 to the official l spark version radio when it comes out. If both work similar with regards to band scans and both do well battery wise, the first might be better. It's the one that holds on to b25 very well, correct?

Deployment still has a ways to go with 26/41 so for right now I want something that holds 25 well yet still connects to the other bands automatically.

Well For me I have had some bleeps of LTE in my house, at a -112 dbm, before it was unusable, now I can use it. And that is coming from a site around 14 miles away. 1x is usually ranging from -90 to -105 from this same site.

I'm still on .17 and have not been able to get on Band 41. Did all kinds of profile/prl updates resets and whatnot. I was in KC in an area marked "Turbo" on Sprint maps, and where I know there are live B41 sites.

b41 set as the first priority?

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
