Everything 800mhz (1xA, LTE, coverage, timeline, etc)

Anyone want to go cell tower spotting?

Yep, for Cellular 850 MHz, the Gulf of Mexico is its own separate CMA.  The two licenses have long been held by oil companies or operators whose sole purpose is to serve the oil companies.

Ah, the oil companies...

How far can a 800Mhz cell signal propogate in a rural area that is for the most part flat? Maybe some tress that are no more than 40 feet tall. Just trying to figure out how much the Sprint voice coverage will expand at the perimeter towers and if it will fill any roaming gaps inside of native coverage.

Obviously, there are a lot of factors, but I THINK users here have reported getting a usable signal from 20 miles away. But keep in mind to not expect that. Also, that is 1X and not LTE.

Thought that was answered. Try 30-50 miles.

I hate questions that get asked incessantly, and of those, this XYZ signal propagation/reception distance question is probably my least favorite one.

For a currently weather appropriate analogy, if my car starts sliding on an ice covered road, how far will it travel before it comes to rest?

A. 50 ft

B. 150 ft

C. 300 ft

D. until it slams into a cellular monopole

E. not enough information to answer the question, so STOP ASKING IT!

I'm going to assume D if that's the reason you were driving to begin with.

I'm choosing to ignore him this time.

Josh, your sense of humor is "under the weather" again. Give your "funny bone" a quick whack on the desk. That should stimulate your humerus. And if you do it hard enough, my comedy will "leave you in stitches."

can't finish my post.

Reminds me of last night. I was in the NV complete map thread while I was sitting in bed and the next thing I realize, it is 4 am and my phone is under the bed blinking. I guess I am getting too old to work 16 hour shifts back to back to back...

My mistake.  And, actually, I was driving yo momma to her daily dialysis and liposuction appointment.  It was a charitable act.

Is there any chance this thread could somehow divert back to discussing 800 MHz stuff? Talk about a train wreck . . .

Calm down.  Topical discussion will return.  We have just hit a periodic lull.  Now, do you need to be driven to see your psychoanalyst?
