Ha. Soon after griping about the tower placement at Lomita and Western it looms like the lte signal exploded this afternoon. It used to stop at PCH and Western. But now I was able to get it all the way South up to Green Hills Cemetery on Western.

 

And as an extra bonus....SAN PEDRO FINALLY HAS LTE. WHO HOO!!!!

 

The tower at Capitol and Gaffey streets behind the 7 Eleven was transmitting LTE an hour ago. I mapped it on Sensorly and took some speed tests. The signal fluctuated during g every test between 1mb-15mb on both upload and download. Here's a couple screenshots of the results.

Well, last week was a fail for me and my phone, but I'm gonna try this again this weekend. I'll be back down in LA again tomorrow and will try to map out the area of El Segundo just southeast of the 110/105 junction, plus other areas that may not be already mapped. Let's hope this time my phone picks up LTE by itself.

Sitting in Westwood eating dinner at Casa Azul having the most uninterrupted 4G that I've seen yet (and I've definitely been watching). I mean we're talking almost 30 minutes!

Same thing at Santa Monica and Sepulveda! Perfect, full-bar 4G. This is my record speedtest, sometimes it's more like 13-15 mbps down, but browsing and stuff is blazing fast.

I'VE NOTICED my phone is scanning for LTE more often today...I've been moving all around the city and it lost the signal and then like 2 or 3 mins I looked at it and 4G again.Its been like that all day.Hopefully thats the end of that annoying issue.

My phone was doing better locking on to LTE when I was down there yesterday than it has in the past few trips down there. I was surprised.

i was surprised too...and today is still keep catching it really fast..i dont know if the signal got stranger and the scan time is less now dunno.

I don't think this is always the case. My phone runs AOSP the bars always line up exactly with where my LTE strength lays following your instructions. In fact, I can watch my LTE go down to 0 bars, disconnect and then reconnect in 3G with full bars.

It is probably AOSP. I just looked and it seems the Galaxy Nexus showed data coverage in the bars until a sprint provided update in July changed it to voice coverage.

Yeah, my GNex with the latest updates shows voice. All my Android LTE devices are running stock, and all of them show voice only. I like how the iPhone shows the signal of the most superior technology connected. That's the way it should be in my opinion. Show the signal strength of the icon showed. Once LTE is fully deployed, it will be less important.

 

However, this is less important to me than it used to be now that there are apps that will tell me my LTE signal strength in the top bar.

there has been lte more around LA now. yesterday i was in beverly hills and i had it, in inglewood, mid city and around south central seems like a soft launch?

 

also the evo 4g lte sucks at connecting to lte now i have the gs3 but where i get lte with the gs3 the evo 4g lte doesnt even connect!

Kinda surprised that Network Vision hasn't appeared at all in the Pasedena, Alhambra, Rosemead, Temple City, Arcadia, El Monte areas which is still a huge part of LA. Also the edges of Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights, West Covina, Whittier have not been shown any Network Vision love. Hopefully Sprint gets to these areas soon since this is a huge part of LA that is not covered which need to be if Sprint wants to declare LA Metro launch ready. Even a few sites in each of those areas would suffice just for now since the expectation is not all Sprint sites will be NV ready at market launch.

I've taken it that now that they have started Orange County that they will fill in SE LA County too soon.

Sprint has so much potential with this lte

In Los Angeles that there messing up already la is one of the greatest cities in the world !!! Sprint should have started with la early before any small city

They're not messing anything up right now. I believe they started LA about when they started just about all the others, maybe a little bit later. It just takes less time to get smaller markets, less complex markets done first. LA has got to be difficult to do with how dense the population is.

LA did start in the beginning. But the LA market has over 1,000 sites. Sprint is not doing a thin LTE overlay over the whole city, but they are dismantling and replacing every piece of hardware in their entire network and creating multi modal base stations. An entirely new network from top to bottom, and adding LTE along the way. They are replacing all the equipment at every site and upgrading to new fiber and fiber backed backhaul.

 

Sprint is adding LTE to every one of their sites in the country. In LA, it means it is going to take awhile to complete totally. But LTE service will grow and grow every week. And 3G also improves one tower at a time too.
