  1. I was about to get the Galaxy Note 3, then I saw this piece here: http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/162029-sprint-turns-on-lte-tdd-allowing-it-to-compete-with-att-and-verizons-coverage-and-performance, saying that the new LTE had been silently turned on in Los Angeles! Now I guess I'm comsidering the LG G2, although I would love to hear of a tri-band LTE Note 3 coming eventually!
  2. I hear ya. I bought the Samsung Epic in 2011 and couldn't hold a Wimax signal. Almost starting to regret coming back to Sprint, but it should definitely improve. And i love the phone i got.
  3. We haven't hit official launch yet, I don't think? So probably there are no guarantees on coverage or consistency as they set up and test the network. That's my guess anyway..
  4. Wow, i wonder if these settings differ by phone? The CDMA/4G setting was giving me pretty bad battery life on my Photon Q, so i switched to CDMA, and i have eHRPD all the time...
  5. My Photon Q had gotten a software update, and I was noticing far worse battery life afterwards. The device was also constantly dropping connection and reconnecting. I changed to CDMA-only and now have much better battery life and a very steady connection. It seems that LTE is creeping into my precise area: step outside and it connects, inside, mostly just 3g. I think I may stick with just 3g until LTE is more fully rolled out here? Haven't done any speedtests lately, but 3g has been quite adequate lately. (Mostly eHRPD here)
  6. Damn! At Samosa House, Washington Blvd. & Berryman, in Culver City. Debug menu shows around 93 dBm LTE signal strength. Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  7. I dunno, my battery is draining fast, and I'm used to being able to keep a spare in my wallet. Seemed much better before the update, but I'm also wondering if it could be related to the changing/evolving network in my area, and my phone looking for 4G, going back and forth between 3 and 4G, etc. In any case, it's a little dissapointing, as I have no confidence in the device getting me thru a day being out of the house. but I do really like this phone otherwise, with the great keyboard, large screen, nice UI, and it runs nice and smooth. 8. I don't know what this might mean, but lately I've been seeing hints of LTE in and especially outside my house, which seems to have started maybe 4 days ago. Previously I had to walk about 3 blocks North. Today I noticed my connection go from 4G to 3G, and when I look now, it is EvDo-revA:8, whereas before, my 3G was always eHRPD. Also, I was wondering, is it possible that the changing network could cause decresed battery life, with all the changing and shifting and searching? I have noticed decresed battery life starting a week ago. However, this also coincided with a software update for my Photon Q. Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  9. Cool, thanks, I will note my actual signal strength from here on, now that I know how Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  10. Same thing at Santa Monica and Sepulveda! Perfect, full-bar 4G. This is my record speedtest, sometimes it's more like 13-15 mbps down, but browsing and stuff is blazing fast. Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  11. Are you noticing decreased battery life since the update? It could be I am putting in heavier use, but the battery is draining fairly quickly. Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  12. So far, no. I just tried a call and the icon never dissapeared at all. I could even load data while on the call. Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  13. Update: 4G works fine. Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  14. I got off a call and my 3G icon did not come back for 5 mins. or so. Then the phone seeemed to automatically reconnect, and the icon came back. Also, I am in an area that is supposed to have strong 4G, but I am not getting any 4G signal. However, I had not been to this area before the update. Will have to go to where I have been connecting to 4G and see if it still works there. Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  15. I did get a brief phone call but forgot to look right after. A short while later I did notice my 3G icon was missing, but it soon came back on it's own. Will keep you posted...
  16. Well, I got the update today, and so did seemingly everyone else. Seems ok to me, and no one else is reporting any problems. Any change for you, any new update or anything? Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  17. I'm connected to eHRPD here at home in West Los Angeles: -88 dBm, 2 asu, eHRPD 13. If I walk 3 blocks North there is full-on 4G LTE.
  18. Yeah, hopefully it won't be long; we still gotta get Jelly Bean on this beast after that Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  19. Sounds good. If you think of it, keep us posted if you get another update, since you seem to be early in the queue... if it works like that
  20. Damn. Actually there is a way to revert, with some work. I haven't done all of this, but others have: Unlock bootloader, if you haven't already. Head over to the Photon Q development forums at XDA, flash TWRP recovery, then download the stock restore file and restore it thru the recovery. You can always reflash stock recovery after that if you don't want a custom recovery on your device. If you are interested in all this I can provide links. Unfortunately I don't know if there is a way to revert without voiding your warranty. There is a 3rd party root exploit, but I don't know if you can flash a custom recovery without the Moto bootloader unlock. Otherwise if you did catch a buggy update, that sucks and hopefully they will release a fixed one very soon. You could probably complain to Sprint/Moto and see what they might offer you, hehe. Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  21. I chatted with Sprint a little while ago, and they said there is currebtly no such update! Could it be that they pulled it due to bugs? (Forgot to ask that)
  22. My Photon Q was blazing for about a minute, then data stopped going thru on 4G. This was at Westwood Blvd. & Santa Monica Blvd.!! Sent from my XT897 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
  23. Hi all, I'm very glad to have found this site. I got my Photon Q about 5 days ago and had my first 4G 'sighting' the other day in West L.A. 90025. Woke my device up to see the 4G icon, but with no bars, then it went immediately back to 3G. I look forward to lots more! What is the best way to monitor how much 4G data you have used? So far on the Q the only way I think I have found is by going into 'Activate Device', and it seems to give some data info. However, the reported 4G data seems way higher than what I've noticed. Anyway, thanks all!
  24. what is eHRPD? i have been seeing the registration errors here in Los Angeles pretty much daily. there is talk that it is related to the LTE network(?), and that this is one issue that was to be addressed in the software update. edit: found eHRPD in the FAQ
