Google Nexus 6P by Huawei (was [Rumor] Huawei Nexus phone?)

Hmmm... that is weird.  I wonder why flashing the radio wouldn't fix the issue.  I stand corrected.

I'd say the jury is still out on returning to the old radio, seems inconclusive based on the various reports so far.  I suppose it's possible Google introduced a bug in the 6.0.1 system/telephony code independent from the radio.

I've noticed that as well. I toggled "Mobile Data" and phone went back to LTE.

Seems our day of having phone hang onto LTE with fast rescan times are over.

I'm pretty sure this is a bug.

Where I am my phone does not drop to 3G, and after this update its happened multiple times and I don't think LTE scan times are the issue since it never goes back to LTE until I reboot.

Even airplane mode didn't fix it?

Nope.

I've had the extended 3G after a call issue since I got my device in the span of 3 different devices before the latest update. But the issue that you're having it connecting and then disconnecting down to 3G, not connecting again I haven't had that at all. Would you consider backing up your device and doing a factory reset to see if it fixes the issue?

I'm going to wait a few days and see if something changes on that xda thread, too many people on all carriers are having the same issue.

Hmm

Seems like a stellar time to stick with my current ROM.

0% time spent off of LTE/WiFi

Those who see that a firmware update is available -- ooh, new and shiny, gotta have it -- I just do not understand.  In fact, we happen to have a photo of two of those inveterate firmware updaters:

If it ain't broke (and working wonderfully) don't fix it.

Shrugs shoulders.

Suppose if the update included bringing me biscuits and gravy I'd HAVE to update.

The only really tangible benefit I heard in advance of the firmware update for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, or both was T-Mobile VoLTE certification, thus band 12 activation.  But if not on T-Mobile, who cares?

I do not know about "bringing" it to you, but I am sure that you could use your Nexus 6P to call in an order.

It does fix a few bugs actually. Plus the December security patches. I haven't had any issues with 6.0.1 yet other than it doesn't hang onto B41 as strongly and drops to B25/26 quicker.

But that's why the first thing I do with a Nexus is unlock the bootloader. If an update causes issues I'll simply download the previous factory image and flash it. Takes 5 minutes and data is left intact if you don't use the included script to flash it.

I personally love the monthly updates. It lets us avoid the situation when the Nexus 6 launched and SMS was broken in LTE for 5 months until the first update came out (along with certain GSM/WCDMA networks causing the phone to lock up and require a reboot when handing off between sites).

AJ,

This is near and dear to my gut. We live about 3 miles south of the Blue Springs location. Favorite breakfast place EVER!

Biscuits & gravy / cinnamon roll pancakes FTW!

Sorry for the double posting (I know that's against use policies, just want to make sure Nexus users see this):

You all see this?

$20 free to Best Buy just for using Android Pay (anywhere, not just at Best Buy, where I don't think it works) on your Nexus device (any Nexus device)

Have any if you seen or heard of the haptic feedback going out with the keyboard or the home and back arrows on your 6p? This happens to me randomly but for the system settings but the stronger vibration setting will still work. Also using an vibration tester it seems to be working still. I never seen this issue with the Nexus 6.

Nope. Only weirdness I have seen is the "when device is rotated" settings going back to portrait only instead of rotating. Happened twice since I got the phone. My vibration works fine for everything here and I have the phone always on vibration, never a ringer.

    • Excuse my rookie comments here, but after enabling *#73#, it seems that the rainbow sim V2? requires n70 (I turned it off along with n71 - was hoping to track n66) to be available else it switches to T-Mobile.  So this confirms my suspicion that you need to be close to a site to get on Dish.  Have no idea why they don't just use plmn. To test, I put it into a s21 ultra, rebooted twice, came up on T-Mobile (no n70 on s21).  Tried to manually register on 313340, but it did not connect (tried twice). I am on factory unlocked firmware but used a s22 hack to get *#73# working.  Tried what you were suggesting with a T-Mobile sim partially installed, but that was very unstable with Dish ( I think they had figured that one out).  [edit: and now I see Boost sent me a successful device swap notice which says I can now begin to use my new device.  Sigh.  Will try again later and wait for this message - too impatient.]
    • Hopefully this indicates T-Mobile hasn't completely abandoned mmwave and/or small cells? But then again this is the loop, so take that as you will. Hopefully now that most macro activity is done (besides rural colo/builds), they will start working on small cells.
    • This has been approved.. https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/fcc-approves-t-mobiles-deal-to-purchase-mint-mobile/
    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
