Google Nexus 6P by Huawei (was [Rumor] Huawei Nexus phone?)

Nope. Only weirdness I have seen is the "when device is rotated" settings going back to portrait only instead of rotating. Happened twice since I got the phone. My vibration works fine for everything here and I have the phone always on vibration, never a ringer.

Thanks for the info I may need to see if it can be fixed because I use silent mode most of the day.

that happened to me too on 6.0, but not once (so far) on 6.0.1

Well Google support agreed with me on the vibration being a bit messed up and I have a replacement coming. I reset the phone and still had the same issue. This was the first time I have had to contact support and the experience was pleasant even though explaining my issue was a bit of a challenge.

Are sprint customers with the nexus 6p going to be able to use LTE roaming? For right now it seems nexus devices arnt supported.

How so?  We have not seen any evidence to confirm nor deny LTE roaming on Nexus devices.

True but people are showing screenshots of it working on other devices. I was in a LTE roaming area last weekend and I got evdo only. The sprint site also shows LTE roaming on device specific maps for almost every phone capable except nexus devices.

No, the coverage tool maps are not a reliable source at this point.  Sprint has not officially announced anything on LTE roaming -- everything is still a work in progress.  So, we have no further info.

I don't see why Nexus devices wouldn't support it. I'm assuming it's handled completely in the SIM/baseband. It's not like Nexus devices use different SIM cards from other Sprint phones. And the chipsets are the same used in other flagship devices. It seems they would have to intentionally not add or blacklist the devices. I can't see a logical reason for doing that.

I'm not saying its not going to work in the future but as of right now other sprint phones have access to LTE roaming and nexus phones seem not to. Maybe an update is needed I don't know but why arnt they working now along with other sprint devices?

I had my doubts because of what you said in the roaming+ thread. You said it was a remote possibility that some unlocked, third party handsets may not receive all sprint network features.

And I still give one, two, or all three Sprint compatible unlocked, third party handsets this fall about a 50/50 chance of supporting/not supporting LTE roaming.  It may not happen -- because the handsets are not running Sprint approved and customized firmware.  T-Mobile, for example, already has shown this tendency with VoLTE and band 12 issues.

Maybe my memory is fuzzy, but I recall that the device specific LTE roaming coverage maps have been rolling out slowly.  First, it was a CCA/RRPP capable LG handset or two -- though some CCA/RRPP capable Samsung and HTC handsets were excluded.  Am I daft, or does anyone else remember the same?  This seems to be a soft launch.  Until Sprint publicly declares LTE roaming live, there may be more to come, more work to do.

I just do not jump to conclusions or ask questions too soon.  I try to stay even keeled and equitable -- even though I personally own two of the unlocked, third party handsets in question -- three if you also count the Nexus 5.  We have to wait on further info.  And if/when that info comes to the surface, it is highly unlikely to be restricted behind the sponsor paywall.  S4GRU already has gone above and beyond the call of duty to write on The Wall as quickly as possible an LTE roaming article.  Should any further developments arise, we probably will deem it in the public interest to update the article or write a follow up article.  You need not ask questions.

Have patience.

A question for those of you who have the nexus 6 and 6p. Has anyone compared the flash between the two phones? I used them both as flashlights at the same time and noticed the 6p has a yellow-ish tinge to it. Is anyone experiencimg this? I assume if it's consistent on 6p's then the camera is calibrated for it.

that is correct, the 6p is more of a 'warm' light like your house lights while the 6 is a 'cool' light like a dentist office.

Alright cool. Just making sure it wasn't just me. Nice analogy. I'm weird though, I actually have the dentist 'cool' lights in my room and normal 'warm' house lights everywhere else. Your analogy is a perfect example I see everyday haha.

I also have a tiny ding out-of-the-box on the top left of the frame but it's covered with a case so I'm not gonna bother Google about it.

So far I'm loving the 6P compared to the 6. Favorite thing so far is that I don't need to push the power button to wake it, just scan my finger. I'm on the side that agrees/supports the scanner on the back as opposed to the front, feels more natural. Just my $ 0.02.

Warning:  you just got suckered into buying Bose.  No, mere consumer, Bose is not the "best."  It has not been the best forever, even ever.  And Amar now has been dead for two years.

Bose is like Monster Cable.

I was at the mall earlier today and checked out these headphones with my Nexus 6p:

https://www.bose.com/products/headphones/earphones/soundtrue-ultra-in-ear-headphones-samsung-devices.html#v=soundtrue_ultra_samsung_charcoal

Guess what... the volume control worked!  Now, I'm not going to recommend these if you want good value in sound, BUT if you want a set of headphones with volume control that works on your Nexus 6p, here's one option for you!  I'm gonna see if I can get this on my wishlist in time for Christmas. :)

Happy Holidays!!

I once walked into a bose outlet in a mall at the beach about 10 years ago. The salesmen were the most aggressive I have ever seen in retail. I was getting laughed at for leaving the store without buying something.

I'll never buy a bose product. Ever.

I'll also never purposefully listen to Metallica after the whiny fit they through over Napster.

Lol, rant over

Anyone else notice that the 6P never displays a SNR below 20? I thought it was just broken and always showed 20, but I've occasionally seen higher value.

I wonder if that's partially why it shows a much higher signal strength (both the status bar bars and the color in the battery history stats) versus the 6 in the same location, even though the rsrp isn't much different.

Is anyone having any memory issues? My phone is using 2 gb of ram just when I boot it up and by the end of the day my phone is so slow and laggy its unusable.

2GB of usage is about where it sits normally. The Nexus 6 was the same. Android (and Linux in general) keeps things in memory (cache) after they're done being used. The reason is so that if you need to run that app again or access that file, it's super quick since it's already in memory. Otherwise unused memory is just wasted. If the memory is needed then it's taken from the cache.

On boot a lot of apps run then exit, so the cache is already full. It shouldn't affect performance though.

As to why it gets laggy for you... I don't know. I haven't had any issues. It could be a problematic app, or too many apps with background services running. Facebook is notorious for this. Can you sort memory usage by app and see if a culprit stands out?

I just noticed that one of the recent profile updates that was pushed out reverted my preferred network type to Global from LTE. Maybe a sign RRPP is enabled now?

And has anyone confirmed that Global Roaming / Open World works on the 6P?

I'm still sitting on LTE as my preferred network type. Also why would we need Global set?

It doesn't need to be set, but it's the default option. I'm just saying one of the last 2 forced profile updates reverted mine back to the default setting. I would assume they do this when they make a more substantial change to the network settings, but maybe not.

It's always like that even if you do a profile change yourself or them.

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No specific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
