LG G2 -- the first Sprint tri band LTE handset (was "LG Optimus G2")

What we know:

1.  Screen size 5"-5.5", probably LCD type...hopefully Gorilla Glass 3

2.  Thin as hell...button on the BACK of the phone

3.  S800 chip...this is THE chip of 2013!

4.  No stylus

5.  13MP camera in the back...probably similar to LG Optimus Pro...hopefully improved optics

 

The BIG question is whether it is tri-band LTE compatible...i am praying that it is since it has S800 chip (same as Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE Advanced)...shame on LG if not!!

The bigger question is, will it hit Sprint at all? The Optimus G was the first high-end phone we got from LG, and it has yet to be seen if Sprint will be buying more of them.

I think if all the carriers will be getting the LG Optimus G 2, I don't see why Sprint will be left out of the party.  The LG Optimus G was only sold on AT&T and Sprint but I expect Verizon and Tmobile to jump into the party especially if its like the Galaxy S4 (5 inch, 1080p display) but has the Qualcomm S800 chip.

The Optimus G was the only phone that almost pulled me away from apple! I was hoping the G2 would come to sprint.... :-( I was thinking about moving to LG from apple. :-(

Unlike original G where one location/country/carrier got it first and another months later, LG promises that everyone will get G2 at the same time.  It is rumored that G2 will be introduced on Aug 7.  I see no reason why Sprint would not carry it.  Lets hope that it will be tri-band compatible!

If you want to deal with lack of updates, then LG is the way to go. The Viper I had barely got updated to Ice Cream Sandwich about 7 months or so after release. Pathetic compared to other devices.

I can only imagine how the Viper may have left a bitter taste in your mouth. However, things tend to be very different with high-end, flagship devices, Josh, which your Viper was not.  That's why I always advise others to spend the extra 50 or so bucks and get a flagship phone, such as the Optimus G/G2.

That's why I always advise others to spend the extra 50 or so bucks and get a flagship phone, such as the Optimus G/G2.

 

I sure hope you are right, because I've noticed how much better Samsung has much better update cycles overall.

Only time will tell, as this is Sprints first flagship device from LG. That being said, I'd put my money on any manufactures flagship device(s) getting updates ahead of their budget devices.

Considering Sprint has already publicly stated there will be a tri-band LTE phone from LG before year end, I would be shocked if it were anything other than this (G2).

Thanks!  Unfortunately, it looks like no SD card slot and likely no removable battery either.  32GB internal memory.  Not a deal breaker, but I prefer having SD (for my movies) and I abuse my battery a lot...so, I like to have a removable battery.

Same here except I don't abuse it a lot but the few times I do need to swap batteries when away from power sources is nice. SD card is also a must as a 32gb SD card is nice for storage, I have been looking at the 64's and will probably upgrade later this year.

In my Note 2, I have 64GB micro-SD...and I have at least 6-8 movies on there for slow times at work!

 

I will be buying my next phone on contract...so, I need a battery solution that will last at least 2 years.  Like I said, I abuse my battery tremendously because I am a demanding user which means no battery will last a day with me.  I always need a charge or two or three during the day, even with my Note 2.  iPhone 5 also needs 1-2 charges to make it thru the day with me.  With each charge, it is more like a boost charge because it never sits long enough to get a full charge. With me doing that, I don't think a fixed battery will survive 2 years with reasonable life.

Korean publication states that the LTE-Advanced version of the upcoming LG Optimus G2 will feature 3 GB of RAM for the first time. This might translate to the global edition as well, where LTE-A will be turned off for the simple reason that no carrier while SK telecom offers it yet on such commercial scale.

The sources cited that the three gigs will enable faster multitasking and watching a Full HD video while doing something else without hiccups, meaning LG plans on continuing with its QSlide Apps multitasking concept.

LG is no stranger to mobile "firsts", as it was the sole maker out of the gate with a dual-core handset and the first to out a 3D-enabled phone. It was first to introduce a phone with 2 GB of RAM with the Optimus LTe 2 last year, so there's every chance 3 GB in a pair of gig and a half modules will be present.

I read this yesterday, and it is one very nice looking device but what the hell is up with the volume buttons(and I think even the power button) being on the back of the device? Makes no sense to me at all.

Even though the lg viper is a poor example, just about every flagship lg device has had horrible support once it was been released.  With lg and google partnering up for the nexus I would think that lg would now be more on top of things with updates to their devices.

If this phone is international and a triband device(I have a feeling it will be because sprint stated that all their flagship phones would be international with a removable sim card, and the SG4 and the HTC One are proof of that), then I will buy it in a heart beat. if i'm going to sign a contract that requires I keep a phone for 2 years then I better have hardware that will take advantage of whatever sprint is going to be rolling out over the next 2 years.

I am pretty happy right now with my Optimus G off contract. If the 800 bands or Clearwire spectrum get activated in my city, at that point in time I'd consider an upgrade to a tri-band device. But hard to make the case for a new phone until then.

If you watch the video, it seems like the "middle" button b/w the up and down arrow is a FINGERPRINT READER I think.  I don't think that it is a button.  Pretty sweet if it works as advertised.
