Network Vision/LTE - Milwaukee Market (including Madison)

It was probably the tower just south of McFarland on HWY 51. I would expect an extremely weak signal from that far away. Grab the SID and other tower info next time you connect and we can see if its the same tower.

That streach of purple on Stoughton rd would be to far from the McFarland to get a signal. Even if it did, I wouldn't be able to get full bars like I do when driving on that road.

haha. Yea, I'm not expecting big batches of LTE in the Milwaukee market quite yet. I'm guessing a few will trickle in here and there for the next few weeks at least, then we might start seeing handfuls per week.

Looks like more work is going on at the two towers near me. The first (red warehouse at 1st and Becher - with 3 circles) are definitely Sprint towers. I asked a technician what they were doing and he confirmed they were upgrades. When I asked if LTE panels were going up, he shook his head and said "shortly". I didn't wanna hound him but I had the feeling of watching the linesmen install cable in my neighborhood when I was a little kid. I tried to get photos but the panel racks are set back on the roof so there was no way I could get a really good shot without using a more advanced camera. I'll get that done as soon as I'm able and share those.

That would explain alot! I walk past there often and it has been worse than normal.

There's been some activity on the old Gimbels at 11th and Mitchell. There are several clusters of panels so it's hard to say if they were working on Sprint's.

So, based on the permits that were pulled and the activity going on at these locations - and my sporadic signal quality, the city of Milwaukee is getting ready for warp speed.

This one is for the Gimsters & Schubels (The old Gimbel's / Scheuster's building) at 11th and Mitchell st. It looks like it's miscategorized by the person who issued the permit, but the contractor is identical to the one working on the tower at 7th and Cleveland.

Signal quality has been a little shady lately.... Anybody have any information about other sites in Milwaukee?

About the only thing I can recommend short of tossing a few bucks to this site (so you can access the maps) is get the address of the building that the offending towers are on and check the city's property info for any construction with alteration type permits. If you're not sure of the location of the tower, try an app called SignalSite Map. It's not the best but it keeps a running map of the towers you've hit and plots its approximate location on a map.

and now my scavenger hunt begins! Can you narrow it down to side of town? Is it the Tokay tower???

EDIT: I did send you a paypal for a few bucks, I'll send them as I can. I do appreciate what you guys are doing here.

Was up in Fond du Lac at the Fleet Farm checking out their sprint 4g this weekend. Not nearly as good as Allenton. Getting 16-23mb/s thru there and only 3-4mb in Fond du lac. Looks like North Fond du lac has it now... I frequently ride Milwaukee-Oshkosh route each week. Still waiting for a blip in Milwaukee.

You might want to keep an eye on 11th/Mitchell and 1st/Becher. There's been activitiy around those areas but who knows what the real reason is.

I'd get a photo of the antennas at 1st/Becher but it's a building mount and it's set back on the roof so I can't get a photo of it unless I trespass on the Canadian Pacific tracks behind it. And I'm not. :)

What you have to worry about getting a trespass going on a railroad track? I've violated restricted floors in a building because I'm nosy. Just do it.

Had a literally 2 second blip of LTE in downtown madison, forget exactly where but I remember. Sensorly was mapping at the time, but I don't see it on the map yet.

Looks like you mapped out your blip while you were on John Nolen Dr. Very weak purple signal but a signal none the less. I'd assume sprint will have towers lit up on major Madison streets/rd's (stoughton rd, E.Washington ave, University ave and the Beltine hwy) before any other towers go live. I plan on having sensorly running at all times during my travels on thoes roads.

    • Yes! That does keep it from wandering off Dish and most importantly, reconnecting immediately (at least where there is n70). Thanks!
    • I have my Dish phone locked to NR-only.  That keeps it on Dish and only occasionally will it see T-Mobile NR SA for brief periods before going to no service. I also don't have mine band locked beyond that, except that I have some of the unused bands turned off just to try to reduce scan time.  Fortunately, my Dish phone is the one with the MediaTek chipset, so it has NR neighbor cells, and I can usually see n71, n70, n66, and sometimes n29 (market-dependent) through those regardless of which band it's connected to as primary. - Trip
    • Excuse my rookie comments here, but after enabling *#73#, it seems that the rainbow sim V2? requires n70 (I turned it off along with n71 - was hoping to track n66) to be available else it switches to T-Mobile.  So this confirms my suspicion that you need to be close to a site to get on Dish.  Have no idea why they don't just use plmn. To test, I put it into a s21 ultra, rebooted twice, came up on T-Mobile (no n70 on s21).  Tried to manually register on 313340, but it did not connect (tried twice). I am on factory unlocked firmware but used a s22 hack to get *#73# working.  Tried what you were suggesting with a T-Mobile sim partially installed, but that was very unstable with Dish ( I think they had figured that one out).  [edit: and now I see Boost sent me a successful device swap notice which says I can now begin to use my new device.  Sigh.  Will try again later and wait for this message - too impatient.]
    • Hopefully this indicates T-Mobile hasn't completely abandoned mmwave and/or small cells? But then again this is the loop, so take that as you will. Hopefully now that most macro activity is done (besides rural colo/builds), they will start working on small cells.
