Galaxy S20 Series Discussion

So talking to a rep right now, and according to her... (she seems a little less educated if you will) but she told me the s20 didnt say which or if it was all... but supposedly they are having some issues and not playing well.. as of now, she hasn't gotten into it, I took the sigh and the mumbling about problems with the phones....

So i gather by what she is having me doing, the "roaming" or getting onto sprints bands if needed isnt working out well..

Some of this is just me reading into things.. but you get the point..

ill play the game a little longer and see where it goes

So you're saying there are hardware issues with the modem? I've had no issues I'm on 5G 90% of the time.

possibly... as with any electronics, they have their outliers.. good and bad.

I just did reprovisioning... we will see how that works out

That would be two Samsung flagships in a row, my S10 Plus had the modem issue where data became unusable after a few months. It essentially fried itself, the replacement was solid though and was a brand new unit not a refurb. Keep us updated I'm curious as to what might happen.

I dont know if its an issue (they say old tmo sims) but I have a sprint sim.... I guess if we keep having issues, a new sim would be the next step..

Do you know which yours is??

I'm not having any issues with my S20 Ultra.

Just picked up the FE from Tmobile today.  Working great so far.  Shows 5G in the house with 5Bars.

Got one on launch day from Best Buy for $200 off, working pretty nice so far. Found some N41 in the Omaha metro.

Careful of the 5G indicator, it doesn't always mean 5G is actually active. It means the LTE channel you're on is set to be an anchor band for 5G. Check SCP to see if NR is actually active.

Have you guys been seeing the network (either 5G or LTE) being displayed even when on WiFi? I haven't been able to narrow it down to a specific app and it's not from a weak WiFi signal or the wifi switching setting. Not sure if it's adversely affecting anything. So I have currently my WiFi symbol, the WiFi-calling icon, and "5G",  the signal bars and battery icon. Started for me after the last update that fixed GPS.

I just connected to WiFi and the 5G indicator went away.

All is normal here.

I finally received the September update today, and with it AT&T has enabled NSA N2 and N66 now. Still no SA available in the RAT menu. Its also now showing MIMO # in service mode screen.763887151dc5a1f3b9794310b50b6397.jpge3c8a575bbc27f0e882aae79d57ebc4a.jpg

Likely DSS coming soon with the iPhone launch. Verizon will likely put out a similar update pretty soon in anticipation of the iPhone.

Do you recommend that I use the new R15 sim instead of my old Tmobile sim card?  When I traded in my old LG G7, they just put my old sim card in the new S20 FE.

Without an R15 sim you won't get 5G SA.

So the One UI 3.0 Beta is out, I signed up for it but when I go to check for an update it says I am up to date. Hmm.

Old T-Mobile SIM? Have you had a T-Mobile line previously?

If your S20 activated and is getting service you should be okay. However I would have expected a SIM to come with your S20 already installed if it was indeed new.

I switched to Tmobile a couple of years ago.  Sprint wouldn't work inside my house when we retired here.

A new sim was in the box but she just put my old one in the new phone.

    • Excuse my rookie comments here, but after enabling *#73#, it seems that the rainbow sim V2? requires n70 (I turned it off along with n71 - was hoping to track n66) to be available else it switches to T-Mobile.  So this confirms my suspicion that you need to be close to a site to get on Dish.  Have no idea why they don't just use plmn. To test, I put it into a s21 ultra, rebooted twice, came up on T-Mobile (no n70 on s21).  Tried to manually register on 313340, but it did not connect (tried twice). I am on factory unlocked firmware but used a s22 hack to get *#73# working.  Tried what you were suggesting with a T-Mobile sim partially installed, but that was very unstable with Dish ( I think they had figured that one out).  [edit: and now I see Boost sent me a successful device swap notice which says I can now begin to use my new device.  Sigh.  Will try again later and wait for this message - too impatient.]
    • Hopefully this indicates T-Mobile hasn't completely abandoned mmwave and/or small cells? But then again this is the loop, so take that as you will. Hopefully now that most macro activity is done (besides rural colo/builds), they will start working on small cells.
    • This has been approved.. https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/fcc-approves-t-mobiles-deal-to-purchase-mint-mobile/
    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
