iOS 8.0.1 update kills cell service.  my phone says "No Service" now.  tons of other people reporting it.  apple dun goofed

It also killed my touch id

I was just about to start it but thankfully I read this forum right beforehand.  I was literally on the screen where all I had to do is tap Download and Install.

 

Sorry to those of you that installed it, but THANKS for the heads up!

Also, that update came out quick. Holy crap. Good on Apple.

I won't try and discount that someone legitimately did or can do this, but yes plenty of people have made videos showing if you squeeze the shit out of an iPhone 4 you can impeded a signal .. Or bend an iphone 5... And now a 6.. My advice is don't sit on an iphone 6 or iPad mini.. My iPhone 5 can be run over by a car but you're comparing a metal alloy to plastic

didn't apple release something a few months ago where the source file of the code on their website showed someone forgot a semicolon or parenthesis in a function and that is why it was wonky?  i think it might have been that https bug.  what if same thing happened again lol

Nope. I just stopped my update before it could start when I read this thread. A page back someone acknowledges that its crashing the cell service all together, including iMessage, and also touch ID.

Yeah, from a few posts on Macrumors, doing an iTunes restore fixes it.  Still not good for Apple.

iPhone 6/6+ are the only phones affected by 8.0.1 apparently. Lesser models should be safe.

What...? Your phone will ship with ios 8. By the time you get it this problem will have long been resolved.

 

If it's that easy to get you to not want an iphone(because of a ios glitch which will be fixed ASAP), maybe you shouldn't get one lol.

If you updated to iOS 8.0.1 and are experiencing the "No Service" and no Touch ID problem, download iOS 8.0 onto your PC, back up your device, and do Shift+Update and select the 8.0 IPSW and let it go back down to 8.0. Apple took down the 8.0.1 update from OTA and is working on a fix for it now. So far, this is the only remedy I have seen for the problem. Luckily I haven't updated to 8.0.1 yet

Apple is doomed. We should all throw our iPhones away. They're useless anyways. Because they might bend if I try with force to bend it. And ios 8.0.1 temporarily crashed some devices ( how unfortunate nobody can do a restore....oh wait they can) lol

I guess the moral of the story here is to not put your phone in your pocket and sit on it unless you have it in a sturdy case, and to wait for reviews for iOS updates first.

 

I still haven't gotten my 6+ (waiting on the metaphorical 'slow boat from China' as we speak) but I'm glad I didn't attempt 8.0.1 on my 5.
