I know I should not be happy as Sprint is dead last with VoLTE but I am. It is working wonderfully for me I still have not connected to any T-Mobile towers yet. Signal is still low on the strength icons. Is there a way to switch to a numerical value instead of the strength icons. I know it was possible on the Qualcomm modems?

I'm going on a hunch that the magic ios 12.1.1 for roaming

My belief is that Sprint will give T-mobile native roaming priority to the people running or capable of running VoLTE as to back fill the holes we all know that Sprint has in its OEM towers as VoLTE is sensitive to LTE gaps.

This is purely a guess but now that we know that the VoLTE trigger for the launch devices in the launch markets is in 12.1.1. (Currently Developer Beta 1) with a Carrier Bundle of 34.5.5 they might be using the T-mobile native roaming as a full in for VoLTE and it will be in that same bundle firmware update. I can’t test this as I let my developer account lapse. I am hoping that the 12.1.1 is opened to beta testers today!

Darn!, Could the carrier bundle be out of date with the 6S?

Yes everything is supported BUT some of the services need to be "Whitelisted" at the carrier. WiFi calling normally needs to be whitelisted at the carrier level.

assuming that your friends iPhone is on Sprint I believe the answer is the home labeled T-Mobile "Roaming" you are experiencing is the newer bands and I bet the friends iPhone 6(s)? does have access to those bands in their radio...

I believe when Sprint signed the roaming agreement they have it programmed as home area. So no...it's considered as home area for subscribers. now if you happen to use Sprint's towers through a MVNO then I believe you run on just the Sprint Owned towers.

I believe the answer is simple. Sprint and T-mobile signed a roaming agreement and the agreement is to display it as a Sprint area. And Sadly our Xs's are weaker is signal capture..
