Sprint 3x carrier aggregation on a 8X8 MIMO would bring 1.3 gigabits speeds. That was Hesse and Saw presentation in Chicago on June 2014. That is what the 8T8R antennas are for.

Thats not happening anytime soon.

None of Sprint's devices actively make use of the 4x2, which can double throughput.

 

No, if a device is 2x2 MIMO capable, then it is 4x2 MIMO capable.  The four antennas/streams are purely a base station enhancement, spatial diversity to assist greater 2x2 MIMO utilization.

These potential speeds are great and all, but what about more rural coverage that includes lte? Hell lte speeds at 2 or 3 mbps is okay. The complaints i here from past customers of sprint is "voice coverage was ok, but data is 3g or unusable when you you leave the city".

I guess it depends on where you live. Sprint has a very large amount of rural lte in florida.

While New York is far from perfect when it comes to rural coverage on Sprint, they still cover something like 94-96% of the population even though it looks like they have coverage almost nowhere. It seems obvious that Sprint wants to hit every person before it hits every place.

I'm generally happy with Sprint, except for the few times over the last two months I've had issues.

 

That one speed test just consumed 126 MB, about as much "unlimited" data as I use in an entire week.

The website is down for maintenance. Prepping for the iPhone 7 series release it seems. OK then, typing in www.mysprint.com prompts with a friendly maintenance message.

Just a fair warning to SERO users out there -

 

I put my plan in seasonal standby for a few months, went to take it out, and they can no longer add back my SERO Premium 500 plan.  Apparently they deleted it from the system on August 1st.  It's been replaced by SERO Unlimited for 60/month.

 

There is a bunch of conflicting info on what triggers a change but just a heads up.

 

Had a good run on postpaid sprint.

Excellent! An updated spectrum chart. I really would like there to be more of these, especially just like this but covering individual markets in this form.

My point is, just like this guy (who is probably more tech savvy than the average consumer) is getting taken for a ride.

 

Best part, Speedtest.net is of course excluded from any sort of throttling.

So as long as you haven't temporarily suspended your line or anything the SERO Premium 500 plan should still be in place?

Correct, but word is, if you so much as change the phone to something else on your plan, you have to move up to the new SERO.  ($10 more per month)  Even if you bring your own device.

Hmm so that sounds like even upgrading your phone with a new 2 year contract will put you up to the new SERO.  I will have to find out in 2017 when my contract ends.

      Kind of amazing that T-Mobile is still holding onto that speed title despite Verizon all but killing off lowband 5G on their network. While Verizon is mostly being evaluated on mmWave and C-band performance, T-Mobile and AT&T's average 5G speeds include their massive lowband 5G networks that are significantly slower.

      Yup. Very true. We were originally on an Everything Data 1500 Plan, which got Unlimited Minutes thanks to Marcelo's "Loyalty Benefits" offer. We then switched to Unlimited Freedom (with the Free HD add-on that Sprint originally wanted $20/month per line for.... remember that?) because the pricing was better with "iPhone for Life", vs. the "Loyalty Credit" for staying on a Legacy Plan. After that, I ran the numbers and switched us over to Sprint MAX, especially for the international travel benefits. There's absolutely no reason for us to switch to Go5G Plus or Go5G Next if we're going to do BYOD by purchasing from Apple/Samsung/Google directly as we've been doing. These new plans aren't priced for current customers to switch to. They're priced for new customers, where they throw in a free line, etc. It's gone from "Uncarrier" to "Carrier". What a shame.

      Strange business model that they keep around all these pricing plans. 1000s of plans per carrier is reportedly not uncommon.  Training customer support must be a nightmare. Even MVNOs have legacy plans. A downside of their contract mentality I guess. Best to change contracts during a recession. But then all carriers try to squeeze out legacy plan benefits as they grow old.

      Everything "Uncarrier" is becoming "Carrier" again. Because of the Credit Limit that T-Mobile put on our account for no reason at all (and wouldn't change/update the last time I checked all the way up to the CEO), I don't plan on buying/upgrading our iPhones through T-Mobile. I'm going through Apple directly. Looks like I'll be going through Google and Samsung directly for our other lines for upgrades. Also, we're staying on Sprint Max given the ridiculous pricing for Go5G Plus. On Sprint Max, we currently pay for our Plan: $260 for 7 Voice Lines $25 for two Wearable Lines. (One is $10/Month. The other is $15/Month because the AutoPay discount only applies up to 8 lines.) Total: $285/Month vs. Go5G Plus (Per the Broadband Facts "nutrition label" on the T-Mobile Website): https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce/cell-phone-plans $360 - ($5 AutoPay Discount x 7 Voice Lines) = $325 The Watch Plans show as either $12/Month or $15/Month: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/affordable-data-plans/smartwatches So this is about the same for the wearables as what we're paying now. Overall, it's quite more than we're paying now to switch plans. Ridiculous....
