anyone still using textra on their nexus?  Did you get the newest update the other day?  Looks really slick to me.  However, with the newest update the number keys do not work when typing a message. also when the keyboard is launched and a message is typed and sent and then collapsed the back button does not work to get back to message list and such.  Anyone else see this?

The developer is very responsive to the issue however he can not reproduce it and none of them have a nexus 5 to test with so he wants me to take a video showing the problem but i do not have an easy way to do this.  if you are seeing the same please send a bug report from the app.

So, I just rejoined Sprint from Ting. I have a Nexus 5 and my wife has an iphone 5. Does anyone know if Sprint has a way to monitor usage? (I have 24 GB of data on the Family Share Plan but I will probably be out of WiFi range for the next 10-15 days, long story)

I know there is the horrible Sprint Zone app but I think that only comes preloaded by Sprint and I bought my N5 from Google. Maybe I am just paranoid after having to carefully watch my usage every month on Ting.

Text usage to 1311 - that's all the sprint zone does.

can anyone recommend an app that will show battery charging current (ie milliamps) for the n5?

Battery Monitor Widget .

I use it all the time so I can verify charge rates with different chargers. I brought the pro version.. Great app

I use textra, and I agree the new UI looks pretty nice. I don't seem to have the same problems as you. My number keys work, and after sending a test text message, I was able to press back and get to the message list. Maybe see if any settings got messed up after the update (I know I have had an update mess with my settings before). For the number thing, I'm using the stock Google Keyboard, are you using any 3rd party ones? I'm just wondering if maybe there's an interaction issue. I don't know. If all else fails, maybe clear cache and Dalvik cache or uninstall and reinstall the app as a last resort.

I also know there was a second update recently, a day after the UI change. Maybe see if you have the latest version. Otherwise, I wish you luck in getting this problem fixed.

Yes the tetra issue was fixed for me with todays update. i love the color options now with this new UI.

Are user-specific bubble colors back? I haven't updated this week since I saw the reviews claiming that feature went away. I like being able to glance at my status bar and immediately knowing who I have messages from based on colors.

Doesn't appear to be an option right now.

Thanks. I just noticed there was an update released today, and the changelog indicates that custom bubble colors are coming next. For anyone who hasn't tried it, Textra is a solid messaging app.. it does everything you need with no extra nonsense.

Hmm so it only happens to you after each swap? The last time I swapped was Friday August 29. The first issue was on Sunday Aug 31 and again today. Usually after swapping SIMs you have a notification stating the requested network is unavailable. I didnt get that notification in this case. The disabling of the 1x was random. Next time it happens, I will look at the radio info (*#*#4636#*#*) to see if something changed.

again this happened. I tried the Radio Info page and nothing was different. I tried flashing a new radio baseband and nothing. popped the SIM out and put it back and nothing. So far the only fix is to put the phone in 1x mode and reboot. Not a big issue except I don't know when the radio is disabled if I am on LTE.

I think my phone has taken a crap. Every time I reboot the 1x part of the radio disables unless I put the phone in 1x mode beforehand. also the disabling will happen at random during standby.

Edit: so I did a PRL update via WiFi when the 1x is disabled and like magic the radio starts functioning normally. Could it be a bad PRL? I'm on 55020.

Probably because the PRL updated forces a rescan. Does it persist after reboot?

I think connecting and dropping EVDO is not an issue of the phone. It's a cell capacity issue. I live in a town that only has one cell site and is only 3G accepted. Speeds are horrible and I do lose the EVDO connection. But everywhere else the EVDO stays connected.

On a side note, it appears the cause of the issue I was having is the radio baseband version. The one for android 4.4.3 and 4.4.4. have a bug that messes up the CDMA radio when switching from a CDMA SIM to GSM and back.

Flashed the radio for 4.4.1 and its working fine now.

I can confirm that the 4.4.3/4.4.4 radio is the cause of the 1x issue.  I corrected it by flashing the old radio and doing another CDMA/GSM swap.  After the swap was successful (phone registered on Sprint with everything working), I flashed the 4.4.4 radio and everything is now working 100%.  Thanks to everybody who helped nail down this issue!

I have the same dropping 3G issue, it didn't pop up until the 4.4.3 update. I don't swap SIM cards so that might not be the root issue. But it's definitely not hardware related. I was just fine before 4.4.3

The 3G drops are likely caused by capacity issues at the site. Where I live there is only 1 site that services the town. Prior to the NV equip, 3G would not drop probably due to having more carrier cards. After the NV equipment install, I started having even worse 3G speeds and lots of drops. Its been almost a year and this site still doesn't have LTE.

In other locations where there are a lot of people and poor LTE signal, I will have similar drops when on 3G. Other times in less populated areas, the 3G doesn't drop at all and data works really well.

So essentially it's just insufficient capacity for the single EVDO carrier.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
