Network Vision/LTE - Tucson/Yuma Market

No love for Cincinnati, Columbus, Toledo, Dakotas, VT/NH/ME, UCV, LCV, Hawaii, Tucson/Yuma, and likely more. I'm working up the full list as we speak because I was already working on a spreadsheet to track progress and completion estimates for every market simultaneously...

 

htabbach, being whiney is understandable at this point, but please at least whine accurately. We're definitely not alone in this boat. Some states still have no LTE at all. At least AZ has gotten off that list.

Things might not be getting accepted here in Yuma, but I'm very sure they are being worked on.

Yesterday EVDO was fluctuating all day and the ability to make voice calls were tough.

Got a screen capture of signal check app while I was in front of the Ave B and 20th Street tower.



Second screen shot shows the speeds today.   I'm very happy with it.

Site acceptance reports from Tuesday (9/3), Wednesday (9/4), Thursday (9/5) and Friday (9/6):

Cincinnati – 7 updates (3 LTE)

Columbus – 1 update (LTE)

Dakotas – 4 updates (3G)

Toledo – 18 updates (3G)

Upper Central Valley – 1 update (3G)

VT/NH/ME – 2 updates (1 LTE)

I just got my first taste of LTE on a work trip to PHX. This makes it so much harder to wait. This was at about 8:30 by the I-17 and I-10

Perhaps in a sense. But once the order is placed, they can nag and nag, but if Cox, or CentryLink drags their feet, is it really still Sprint's fault? Sprint dropped CenturyLink in New Mexico because they were dragging so much, but that's only put them even further behind schedule.

 

Do you happen to know if CenturyLink is, in any way, shape or form, "connected" to AT&T?

I see a lot of tech stuff here on why 4G implementation is difficult for Sprint, and that's fine.  But for me, the bottom line is this: Verizon, T-Mobile, etc have all had 4G LTE in Tucson for well over a year.  The technology is there, and has been for some time.  Since I am new to smartphones, I didn't understand all the implications when I signed on with Sprint.  I have about a year left on my contract, so I'm stuck until then.  If there is not WIDESPREAD, STRONG 4G coverage in AZ by my renewal date, I'll be shopping for another carrier.

 

Does anybody from Sprint read this stuff?

 

Side anecdote - I just think it's kinda ridiculous when I'm sitting somewhere in Tucson with a friend, and while I'm struggling to get one or two bars of 3G, his Verizon phone is enjoying 3 or 4 bars of 4G!  That's not good for Sprint brand loyalty!

This is not true. T-Mobile only launched LTE this summer. But that is not an excuse for Sprint, just trying to be accurate.

The Tucson market is definitely toward the tail end of Network Vision, but hey, someplace has to be last, just like somebody always has to be last in line.  That is life.  If you do not like it, too bad.

C'mon folks, nobody here can do anything to make Sprint, the vendors, the contractors, the subcontractors, the backhaul providers, or anyone else move any faster. LTE is already in our back yard with Casa Grande lighting up on Sensorly. Keep it civil for just a bit longer and we'll be in on the big secret too

Not necessarily, there's still Bumblebee AZ and it's population of 10

You can reasonably expect any Phoenix market areas (like Casa Grande) to light up before us now. They're simply further ahead in the rollout for one reason or another, even though we're closer to completion of tower work.

Well it is right below i-17 so always possible.

Yes two seprate markets for Sierra Vista and Flagstaff. I am just wondering what smaller cities in AZ will get lte first regardless of the market. 

 

Plus was just responding that even though Bumblebee is small it is right next to the i17 corridor so it may have a very good chance of getting lte before some other places in AZ. Though I can not remember if Centurylink has fiber to that tower?

At this time there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to which cities in az light up first. Not like Texas where the integration crew seemed to just keep driving generally west.

... I have no idea whose tower that is based on any of my historical permit data. With 3 separate BTS cabinets with coax coming out of them and the larger panel appearing to have 6 antenna ports, tho, I'm pretty certain it isn't Sprint.

Things are a mixed bag right now.   Service has improved in the Foothills but today I was driving around the old part of town and trying to map with Sensory and it could not even pull up the map....

At least it works up here, i hate going into town.. I work overnights now so these speeds will be high but this is what i have been getting up in the north side of town past ina rd.
