Network Vision/LTE - New York City Market

to the folks boasting blazing face speeds and mentioning band numbers, I'd love to know what you're doing because for my wife and I, and my best friend and his wife, all of whom work in NYC and use new LTE devices, we're just not seeing anything that could even be described as very good.

If your profile is correct and you have an iPhone 5S, unfortunately that phone does not support B41 which is how we achieve those blazing fast speeds. On the bright side, it does support B26, which is still limited in NYC. But, I'm pretty sure they will pick up the pace on that band since it requires very little to get it up and running on current sites.

thanks for the info.

Yeah, profile is correct.  I don't believe there's any way to even know which band I'm connected to with the 5S, but my friends are using Galaxy S4s and having similar problems when LTE is extremely slow and seems to only work quickly in very very small pockets.  I haven't seen any firsthand proof of LTE being reliably anywhere near the speeds Sprint has claimed.

Dial *3001#12345#* and then go to lte serving cell.....I think... It will say what band you are connected to there.

Unless they have a s4t they will have the same issues as you. Mos5 of us who have the super speeds all have triband phones, nexus 5, m8, s4t and s5 amongst others.

thank you gentlemen for this information.  it definitely works as described and next to the entry for Freq. Band Indicator is "25."

On the C train today, I had a cell signal in every station from 81st to 14th Street. The only exception was 59th Street station. For some reason my phone either didn't have a signal, or it didn't connect.

I have noticed LTE service in trains from w4 - Rockefeller center. It works in all stations except when it's actually through the tunnels

It'd be cool if the signal could actually reach from station to station through the tunnels and everything. Maybe in the future… like 2030 [emoji23][emoji23]

Sorry I asked the question wrong. I mean did it receive the spark update?

Not yet. It'll probably come with the next major Android update. Android 4.4.x Cant remember what version is next at the moment.

4.4.3 should be coming to the N5 very soon. Hopefully this week.

Sprint is being charged a 7.5m fine bc they couldn't leave people on the Do Not Call List alone. There goes the NV budget. [emoji30]

7.5 Million is nothing to a billion dollar company. You need not fret.

    • Your referring to the $25.00 a month Infinite Unlimited plan?  I don't see any other plans on there even cheaper than that on their website.  I was looking at the Motorola 2023 Edge fwiw as well for $10.00 a month.
    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
