I have a question. Why is that LTE always feels faster than my home wifi. I have Verizon FIOS 50/25 & its super fast, oddly enough when im connected to LTE with 10-20 it always feels faster.

With anything over 10Mbps, you're not really going to notice a difference in the speeds unless you are downloading big files.

 

What does make a difference is the latency.

 

A high ping time can make Google Fiber seem slow. A low ping time can make a 5Mbps connection seem pretty fast.

 

Maybe the Sprint network is getting better latency than your home connection.

My ping at home is 10-15, my LTE ping is 30-70 but LTE still seems more snappier & faster.

Maybe it's in your head it's also possible the things you do at home and out when you have LTE are different, like where ping actually matters.

I must say, driving on i95 , watching my phone hand off from LTE tower to LTE tower going 55MPH without breaking a sweat does bring tears to my eyes! LOL! Hope all of you enjoyed your holidays..

I forgot to post this yesterday, but this was done on my Aunt's GS3. This was done INSIDE of the Optimum Store on East 45th Street in Brooklyn.

Just started noticing today that my voice calls are connecting considerably quicker than It has been in the last year at my home. I have Google voice integration and have always chalked it up to that being the issue, but it's a pleasant surprise, also the quality of the calls sound quite GREAT from sprint to sprint! (HD VOICE!?)

Can I just say that the bars actually showing LTE signal is very gratifying. It is great for comparing LTE signal with other devices. i find that on all bars of LTE, I got 30Mbps, but around 2 bars I got the 6-8 that Sprint advertises. I might get a new device just to have one that actually shows the correct signal strength in bars.

Someone posted something earlier which said that Sprint actually tanks above Verizon and AT&T now for average speeds. Sprint is at 9.91 Mbps and AT&T is at 9.9 Mbps.

NYC isn't nearly completed. It's around 50% of the sites that have LTE now. I think that it won't be great until about 60% which is he launch amount for T-Mobile. At that density, LTE should be near ubiquitous and the sites will be CSFB capable, so the Nexus 5 and G2 should work perfectly.

 

I would say I have LTE 70% of the time in Brooklyn and 40% of the time in Manhattan. In a billing period, I use more LTE data than 3G if that means anything at all. The towers in NYC don't broadcast nearly as far as in other markets because a single site can have a quarter mile radius or less. It's all about density here and much ess, how far can it shoot a signal.

I found out what was slowing my Optimum internet speeds significantly! It was my router, it has througput limit. It hits 35 Mbps upload but won't go past 50 on the download.

 

For Christmas I asked my mother for a new gigabit capable router (I'm no ordinary teenager) so I can get my actual speed out of the ISP.
