My two year contract with sprint was over in may of this year will sprint allow me to activate this device to my current plan or will they try to make me switch plans?

u don't see the wifi logo at the top?

If you look at the time between the test and the time of the screenshot and also look at the icon next to the test above the download speed you can tell its not the wifi signal.

I can actually get 300 down but I pay for 100 down and TWC overprovisions by 10-15% in my town (Austin) thanks to Google Fiber coming to town. So that 109 down is actually close to the speeds I get connected via ethernet on my computer. Very impressive coming from a very disappointing 5GHz experience with my Nexus 5.

So that 109 down is actually close to the speeds I get connected via ethernet on my computer. Very impressive coming from a very disappointing 5GHz experience with my Nexus 5.

 

I'm in the same boat in Southern California. Pay for 100 get anywhere from 100 - 120. My wifi speed tests are usually done with my N6 and occasionally with my laptop which I had to upgrade the wireless card to access 5ghz.

The really impressive thing is those speeds were downstairs opposite my router (an Asus AC-68U) where my N5 would drop to maybe 30-40% of that speed. the N6P also seems to do much better on holding B41 than my N5. I am a very happy camper in terms of RF performance on this device.

Seems to scratch pretty easily, especially the Graphite color. The 'bending' was already debunked however, to paraphrase the post I'll link below, he pre-broke the glass which made bending the aluminum body of the phone quite a bit easier. https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/3qtuaj/nexus_6p_does_not_bend/

 

edit: Further down someone points out discrepancies between the phone he used and retail phones. It's suspected he's using pre-production phone and also apparently goes through the effort to structurally weaken them beforehand. Other than the obvious 'it's aluminum, it's going to scratch' you guys can pretty much ignore that and move on to comparing the RF of the phone ;)

Didn't think about the glass already being broke from the scratch test. Very surprised the glass cracked from being scratched, that is bothersome

You do realize that both 2015 Nexus handsets support 2x2 MIMO on Wi-Fi, right?  The Nexus 5 was more typical single spatial stream.  That is the primary reason for your Wi-Fi speed boost.

 

However, I am not sure why anyone should be concerned about Wi-Fi speeds on mobile devices.  Whether 100 Mbps, 50 Mbps, or 10 Mbps, most handheld activities are going to function and feel the same.  In my case, I have separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHZ.  I purposely keep my devices (handsets, tablets, printer, gaming system) off of 5 GHz and on 2.4 GHz.  That way, the laptop and the secondary Wi-Fi router connected to several NAS in another room get the 5 GHz super highway all to themselves.  Those are the equipment that can benefit from additional speed.

Yes I am aware of the difference. However, my Nexus 5 was always a poor performer on 5GHz even one room away. As a comparison my N6P actually holds higher speeds at longer distance than my wife's iPhone 6s. I consider that pretty impressive. As to why wifi performance matters, In Austin, TWC rolls out wifi for subscribers for events so I am hopeful that as Sprint (and all mobile carriers really) grind into dust under the strain of events here that I will be able to hold a better wifi signal at longer distances. 

 

Mostly it is just cool to see the march forward in technology as now I won't have to manually switch to 2.4 ghz when downstairs and wanting to stream from my Plex server to my phone.

Yes, stadium/arena/event Wi-Fi is a legitimate concern.  I was thinking only of home use, which to me seems transparent at 10 Mbps or greater.  But back to mass public use, you may not need Wi-Fi as much any longer.  In Kansas City, for example, Sprint 2x CA band 41 generally is superior now to the enterprise grade Wi-Fi at Arrowhead Stadium and Sporting Park.

It's Gorilla 4 glass. Should do fine against normal scratching. Intentional glass scoring, that's a whole 'nother situation.

What about the initial crack before the fire test? The crack from the scratch test?

    • Excuse my rookie comments here, but after enabling *#73#, it seems that the rainbow sim V2? requires n70 (I turned it off along with n71 - was hoping to track n66) to be available else it switches to T-Mobile.  So this confirms my suspicion that you need to be close to a site to get on Dish.  Have no idea why they don't just use plmn. To test, I put it into a s21 ultra, rebooted twice, came up on T-Mobile (no n70 on s21).  Tried to manually register on 313340, but it did not connect (tried twice). I am on factory unlocked firmware but used a s22 hack to get *#73# working.  Tried what you were suggesting with a T-Mobile sim partially installed, but that was very unstable with Dish ( I think they had figured that one out).  [edit: and now I see Boost sent me a successful device swap notice which says I can now begin to use my new device.  Sigh.  Will try again later and wait for this message - too impatient.]
    • Hopefully this indicates T-Mobile hasn't completely abandoned mmwave and/or small cells? But then again this is the loop, so take that as you will. Hopefully now that most macro activity is done (besides rural colo/builds), they will start working on small cells.

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.  
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
