Samsung Galaxy S8 & Dual Sim/Duos

This phone is great but Samsung kept it really quiet about its fast charging. Between regular charging and fast charging there is only a 8-10 difference. I charged the N5 and S8+ at 5% at the same time. In 1 hour the N5 was at 89% while the S8+ was only at 66%. The should have at least given us qc3.0

There's some tomfoolery afoot with charging and the S8 and S8+.  The tech blogs have caught on to it and have demanded answers from Samsung. Hopefully they get some movement on it soon.

I bet it has to do with keeping the battery in good condition.

Kinda not an apples to apples comparison considering the N5's battery is 50% smaller. Also, I'm sure there is some kind voltage management so that it charges to a certain percentage quickly then drops off to ensure reliability.

But id be curious to see a charging comparison against comparable phones.

First do your math. Note 5 3000mah vs S8+ 3500mah that's not 50% more like 15% and second it charged slow the entire time. To get from 5% to 15% it took twice as long as the Note 5 did.

Ah ok LOL, that explains that. Also just saw a video of the S8+ going from 0 to 100% in 1hr and 15min, so something aint right.

Lots of complaints from tech reviews on it and mine definitely doesn't go from 0 to 100% in 1 hour 15 mins. At least not with the included charger.

I revised my post, it was 1hr 42min. Which is somewhat in line with what id expect from QC 2.0.

I bet Samsung just wanted to avoid any potential issues with what ended being one of the worse disasters in the companies history.

Think hpue needs little better optimized or radio. Speed tests fail at -120 . I think carrier aggeration needs optimized too , reading not close each other .

Don't forget to enter the contest!  Even if you ordered one, you know you want a second.  How about for your wife, or husband?  Children?  Favorite uncle?  Site administrator?  I take free gifts!  :)

Seriously, though.  S4GRU needs the funds.  Donate often.  We're a good cause.  And you might win a new S8!  For whomever you want it for.  Maybe even yourself?  :)

I'm not sure if I read it on here or if it was the guys at the store when I bought my S8+, but someone was saying that fast wireless charging was actually faster than with the included charger for some odd reason.

I woudnt trust anything you hear at a store those people are usually idiots. But if that is true Samsung done screwed up but I highly doubt it.

Glad I am holding off a bit, battery issues and radio issues have me worried lol.

Only battery issue is the fact that there is only a 10 min difference between regular charging and fast charging. But battery life has been incredible! This was yesterday. d9b4c890e7c196a7d99d63d6311f876b.jpg

Over how many hours of usage? Also, with all toggles turned on? (BT, location, data, etc)

Location and mobile data are on but bluetooth is off. Auto brightness. It took about 30 hours until I put it on a charger which is something I have never experienced with a phone before.

I'm getting that kind of battery life WITH my Android Wear watch connect to it all day.  Srsly, with a battery like this, I'm not sure I care so much about the charging.....I navigate around town now with Google Maps, streaming music with Android Auto keeping the screen on and don't even plug it in.  Ridiculous!

This phone will not switch bands while surfing net or streaming a moive .

It better would or we have a big issue.  Are you sure you do not have something set up wrong or not doing the test properly?

They do not switch band just for the fun of it, but they should switch if another band is more appropriate.

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). The do have a reserve level. It is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  They did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, RVs in Walmart parking lots where mobile needs all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71. 93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline in June for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio iirc. No reported sightings.
    • T-Mobile Delivers Industry-Leading Customer, Service Revenue and Profitability Growth in Q1 2024, and Raises 2024 Guidance https://www.t-mobile.com/news/business/t-mobile-q1-2024-earnings — — — — — I find it funny that when they talk about their spectrum layers they're saying n71, n25, and n41. They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
    • Was true in my market. Likely means a higher percentage of 5g phones in your market.
