wow that was short...

No more 30 day period

Thats surprising. Does it mean too many people were trying it and not liking the service.

First this a retention offer for existing customer in good standing, not an offer for new subs.

Absolutely not true. My mom jumped out of Sprint last month into that plan. She never used more than 500mb a month, so now shes saving money and getting actual phone service. I was the one that got her into Sprint originally, but since Sprint hasnt managed to give Fresno NV 1.0, never mind LTE, she had enough.

First this a retention offer for existing customer in good standing, not an offer for new subs. Second, 2gig of data not unlimited. Third, vzw's margins are much better than sprint's so having a value offer for retention purpose makes sense for them, I don't think a 50 plan with a subsidy makes any kind of sense with Sprint.

seems it is brand new…

Yeah if shopping as a new customer on Verizon's website, I get the $60 plan option too. That is very competitive for Verizon with their coverage...no compelling reason for a light data user to stick with Sprint or Tmobile. Now for a heavy data user, verizon and att prices are simply insane.

Now is this just a coincidence, or is vzw playing Marcelo a bit?

I think Verizon is definitely trying to snatch some low profit customers just for numbers...and with this Sprint transition, tmobiles poor coverage becoming more and more known...now is a great time.

Smart move by vzw....

Again, if it were me just make max framily prices the norm.

$25 talk/txt 2gb data... That will make those $60 people think again.. Furthermore paying $35 less you will put up with a network that isn't as good as verizons.

Knowing sprint, they offer something better but not enough to create some noise.

Yeah... with the main financial news sites all reporting the same thing; sprint planning on announcing new price plans etc etc. If Sprint just calls it in (pun not okay maybe intended) with just lukewarm results, the press will have a field day. Not to mention the tweets from.... you know.

Verizon has been offering this as a loyalty /retention option since 2013. Some new customers even managed to get switched to it long before now. Its more similar to them "taking a plan that has been tested" public than anything else. But it is timed deliberately, representing about a $5-7 premium over the best framily configuration+device financing, minus other perks.

For sure, Claure has his work cut out for him. The price has to be competitive, but moreso, there has to be significant added value. Something has to happen that the flamingo wont immediately copy without hesitation. It cant just be price

Agreed!

I highly doubt Marcelo would do it, as it sort of admits defeat somewhat.   BUT what if the hook to bring on new subscribers (and to keep current ones) is a simple reward system!

Today we announce these new plans (what ever they may be), we know our network is still expanding and in areas not as fast as we would have liked.   Once you signup for these new plans, which will only be offered till the start of the new year - you will be grandfathered onto them for 2 years.

Or something like that??

Yeah, I'm pretty sure my mom switched to this plan a few months ago because she felt her previous Verizon bill was too high. My grandmother has the same plan and she got it when she bought her iPhone 5S late last year.

Does anybody have any inside scoop of next weeks price cut / new sprint plans?

Nope. Not yet. Hopefully soon we will though.

What they should so is undercut by price at least $5, and the *double* the data the other carriers are offering for the same price tier, while keeping unlimited at or near the same as tmo.

And include free hotspot in all plans, capped at ~6gig or equal to whatever the data tier plan is (ie any data plan less than 6gig gets free hotspot to to the cap at that tier).

Finally, they should do away with any overages and cap speed over the tier to about ~2megs (still using lte).

This ought to still provide better, usable speed than any other over cap limits imposed by tmo/att/etc and provide a marketing boost that they can use that even though speed may be reduced, your still getting usable LTE vs unusable 1x, edge, or 3g speeds.

Sounds good but $5 wouldn't wow me..

Its like a car dealer... You wany his best price first.. Or you know you aren't going to buy now

Your ideas are great, however I wouldn't switch for $5. While the data is important its the $5 less that people really care about..

$15-20 less or more with more data! That's something they will talk about..

I don't use unlimited data like some but I can feel good with all these delays that I am only paying $45 a month (less with my discount)... For the quality of service if I was $75+ I would def have att with the 10gig plan.

I am excited about possibly hearing of new plans tomorrow. I just hope Marcelo gets rid of data overage fees and for new customers that pesky spending limit.

As someone who left sprint a year or so ago...

$50 unlimited per line or $35 for 3GB unsubsidized would be enough to bring me back.

O and nTelos getting its act together in 24502.

One of these things might happen..there is no chance for the other.

You can have that now with a Framily of 7 of more.

O I know, but it would be great to not have to deal with keeping 7+ people on a plan.

no gimmicks would be ideal.  Just simple pricing.

Filled with flaws, but here's what I'd like:

Simple pricing.  No expensive overages -- just a soft landing to the next pricing tier.

Unlimited customers get a rebate/credit if they stay under a certain amount of data useage.

Email is always free even overseas.

Call and text anywhere from anywhere without expensive overages.

No locked phones.

Netflix and Spotify with Unlimited plans.

Add pay as you go mobile hotspot easily from your device.  Reasonable rates for just what you use.  Discounted for off peak times.

No extra charges for smartphones.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
