Everything 800mhz (1xA, LTE, coverage, timeline, etc)

Most everything I know comes from this site but my understanding is that B26 and B25 are broadcast from the same antennas. The only band that doesn't come through the NV antennas is B41, which needs separate antennas.

So, if the B25 downtilt has already been adjusted, I don't think a 2nd adjustment would be needed.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There are actually three antennas housed inside the casing. Each can have it's own independent downtilt of up to 10° from the downtilt of the main unit.

Crews are flying on 800 LTE activations, not waiting for the optimization crews to catch up. It may be as much as 6 months before sites are optimized after activations. The same held true for the 1900 LTE rollout.

Thanks for the reply. Good info.

I noticed a difference of -10dbm on the B26 site in downtown Orlando. Even after optimizations I'm sure the sites are going to vary greatly based on the area.

I have noticed that they are optimizing B25 finally in the area here. I noticed that one site here in Port St. Lucie had one sector pointing due south since the NV antennas were flown. Just drove by tonight and they had visited the site and swung it due WSW. More directed towards a neighborhood than the freeway. So hopefully it will get alot better here....

Blah where The LTE sites where i live are directional sadly. One down the interstate and one omni Down the road that has about 1/5 the distance it had at the beginning.  Optimization has already been done on the sites in my area, just waiting on a full rollout of the entire cities and not just the WiMAX conversion sites they did here.

Just thought that I would mention that last evening, in the lowest level underground D Level of the garage where I work in Tysons Corner VA, I was getting strong 3G signal via 800mhz. The speeds were actually very Fast!

Do you mean 1x800 data?

There's no such thing as EVDO on 800MHz on Sprint's network. You were either on 1x800 data or very weak EVDO.

So nobody can tell me why band 26 is not handing off nicely to band 41? Some sites are dropping to 3G when switching from 26 to 41. It's like what sites with no csfb enabled did.

I'm starting to see 1x800 south of I-44. On the 12th my phone kept bouncing on/off a site somewhere along US60, and on the 13th it bounced on/off a site along I-44 somewhere east of Marshfield.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm getting band 26 is a lot of place in the okc metro area now, sadly only 1 site has ecsfb enabled for band 26 though. So my phone gets bumped down the 3g unless I disable band 26. What a pain in the rear.

Put the handset into LTE only mode.  Done.

Haha, I think you know that isn't a viable option.

No, I am not sure why that is not a viable option.  Though I have little need to use LTE only mode, phone calls are something of an intrusive nuisance.  I take/make probably three phone calls per month -- and those are almost always via VoIP from my laptop in my office.  Every other call, well, instead of the proverbial rejoinder "talk to my hand," you can "talk to my voicemail."  For nearly all purposes, e-mail, SMS, and Web are far more convenient and far less intrusive.

If you are one of those unfortunate souls who has to use the phone regularly, I feel for you.  Talking to people on the phone is a chore.  In fact, maybe you are a time traveler from the past.  Back to 2004, back to 2004...

Unfortunately my job frequently requires real time communication and I have to be available if(when) life alert calls me about my 80 year old grandmother. Otherwise I totally agree about talking on the phone being a chore. I'm a very busy man and I would prefer textual communication in all noncritical situations.
