Sensorly - New market deployements

Recommended Posts

While it looks like the app surely collects info while it is running, if you switch to any other app or even press Home, it looks like it stops collecting data and is even sometimes killed. This prevents me from playing music or using navigation and still mapping while I drive automatically.

That's what "Map trip" is for : start the app, go to map trip, press start.

Then when you exit the app, it keeps running. You're notified by the icon in the status bar.

Exactly. The whole point of my posts was that I would like the addition of a setting that forced "map trip" to start automatically and immediately when the app was launched. This would allow me to make a profile to start the app when my phone was docked and have it constantly tracking without ANY user intervention while I drive across the country.

Ok, I understand.

Did you install the latest version ? That version should always start collecting data when you dock the phone. If not, can you please email us at contact@... so we can work this out ?

I've tried the latest, no dice. I'll shoot an email, thanks.

So, you should totally update that list at the beginning of the thread; I think I hit a new high score. 63,839 data points (combined) in the past 31 days.

Oh, and the 2.1.10B2 showing signal when tapping on the map is now working great!

Where/when/how did you get 2.1.10B2? This version doesn't show upon their web site, nor does my GS3 show an available update.

Not sure what does that but I had a problem with a site that would show up on the free wifi at home but not on the phone. Still does it just checked www.emcu.it It must be DNS related for me cause when I set my computer to use google dns 8.8.8.8 it will then load it while tethered. Not sure how to set a dns on the phone

From the Home Screen > Menu (button) > Settings > Wi-Fi > Pick the Network (access point) you want > When you go to enter password, there is an option for "Show advanced options", checkmark that option > Choose "Static" from the IP Settings dropbox > Scroll down to DNS1 and enter 8.8.8.8 .

Thanks but I want to change the DNS I use while on 3G/LTE not on wifi.

that's out of your control. It's on Sprints side.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

Actually, you can change the DNS for all network activity. It just requires you to be rooted and that you add a few lines to the build.prop.

  • 1 month later...

I uploaded a bunch of results today (12-15 hours ago), but they haven't appeared on Sensorly as quickly as they usually do. Anyone else seeing this issue?

I'm uploading another few thousand as I type this. Don't want them getting lost..

Alright, points I've uploaded ~24 hours ago are up, but not the ones from 12-15 (again, coincidentally) hours ago. Think it's just a huge delay.

Edit: now those are up

Edit2: and now my most recent set of points appeared almost immediately.

Hi,

Indeed, we weren't updating maps for a about a day and then the servers caught back up in the next couple hours. Let us know if you see anything missing.

Sensorly,

When ever a new tower comes online and makes a stronger signal in an area that use to have weak signal, why does the stronger signal not overtake the weaker on the map??

thanks!

Rickie

When we get multiple readings in the same area, we average them. So if lots and lots of readings were made in an area, it may take a little while to increase the average. We're going to improve that in 2013.

Sensorly, why did the "grey" feature go away?

That is, previously if you mapped wimax, it showed purple, and if wimax fell, it would map grey (for mapped, but no wimax). Now, new wimax and new LTE simply show no mapping in areas with no signal.

Yeah, that was a better way. It lets you know if someone has mapped that area or not. Instead of guessing if you could get coverage there you know that the signal was lost.

It's there but doesn't work well with CDMA voice networks. We're trying to get it to work.

If you look at GSM maps, you will see a little.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
