There is no app that can tell you which LTE site you're connected to on the Sprint network. Sprint LTE doesn't squawk it's coordinates. So at this time it's impossible for an app too accurately report it.

 

The only way to find out which LTE site you're connected to is to check your Cell ID's in your Engineering screens, and triangulate the tower using these ID's with a 169 PN offset. It is an advanced thing to do, and pretty much requires a communal efforts with other wireless enthusiasts. They are doing it in New Orleans, Austin and Missouri markets.

Got a chance to walk by townsend and 176street in the bronx where they recently upgraded NV LTE site..Noticed that my distance made a dramatic difference in signal strength. This speed test was taken about 1 block from the site..but the minute I turned the corner It dipped from 30mb to about 7-8mb second. Excuse this shitty pic, 4mp really isnt enough to shoot anything thats remotely far..

is there a android software or a work around the setting to shuts off 4g when signal reaches around 105rsrp? train ride is fucking ridiculous when my phone connects to LTE when signal is almost non-existing and my phone for some reason does not like to change the signal to 3g. I know how to turn off the 4g but it requires rebooting the phone. hope these issues are gone when more towers are with LTE.

You should consider rooting your phone and installing CM/ASOP rom, you can get real time signal strength with dB rather than pesky bars, and also switch between LTE and EVDO without rebooting. Plus a ton of other stuff.

yea thanks. I am not a huge tech guru so I will just turn off 4g until i see significant improvement during commuting time. Do you guys know how far at&t went with their LTE? there was someone with iphone 5 on the 7 train and they phone was on 4G, rather than LTE for the entire ride. Maybe it was iphone 4s.. not sure. but I know my coworker complained that LTE is pretty spotty for at&t in Queens.

Easy way to differentiate the two different generations of iPhones: 4/4S has the ambient light sensor above the speaker in a "bar" form with front facing camera on the left. iPhone 5 has the ambient light sensor to the left of the speaker (where the camera should be on the 4/4S) and the camera right above the speaker.

 

Easier way of looking at what the speaker has around it.

 

1. Either a dot to the left and a black little bar above the speaker = 4/4S

 

2. Speaker with black dot to the left and right above speaker = 5.

 

Also there is a gap between the flash and camera lense on the 5 because of the rearward facing microphone. There is no gap on the 4/4S (if the back of the phone was facing you.)

 

Seeing as you could clearly see the "4G" symbol, you'll easily be able to pick up the other details as to which cellular device it is.

 

Oh yea and idk about AT&T coverage I'm queens.

I'm not surprised, AT&T's 3G was also spotty for me in Queens, compared to T-Mobile and Sprint anyways. And looking at some old speed tests, the 3G was in the same ballpark as Sprint's 3G.

 

 

Definitely don't miss AT&T at all.

All iPhones 5 will say LTE if its 4g. I think that AT&T at 1 point on the 4s called their hspa speeds like 4g on their 4s, so that's what comes up.

It's not at one point in time. They're HSPA+21 is just branded as 4G on all iPhones since firmware 5.1 I believe. LTE is LTE without a doubt.

 

So in order an AT&T iPhone will read "LTE, 4G, and then Edge."

No, on a iPhone 5 on AT&T with hspa, it will show 3G, as with real 4g (LTE) it will show LTE. The iPhone 4S was either 4g (3G hspa) or edge
