There's probably $12-14 B in synergy a YEAR if SoftBank bought T-Mobile and then merged Sprint into T-Mobile... which is what would happen given what leaked about the transaction when it was brought up the last time.

  • First off, for those of you who still love CDMA, this would accelerate any timeline to kill it off. T-Mobile's CTO would likely be the CTO of any merger. And even if he's not, the T-Mobile LTE coverage is bigger than Sprint's CDMA at this stage.
  • More cost synergies are going to be achieved with a LTE network that keeps a 5 MHz of HSPA for legacy T-Mobile in tact in the areas where it still exists.
  • Sprint small cells can be transitioned into T-Mobile's LTE with Multi Operator Core Networks.
  • VoLTE would be mature enough to lean on by the time anything gets improved anyway, and T-Mobile's more dense network would be getting PCS and SMR spectrum infused into it for more capacity.

My concern is that prices are going to go up, but it's not like a President Trump gives a shit about that anyway.

I wonder how much spectrum the NewCo will have to divest (if any) also if the merger doesn't go through I don't want Sprint have to pay a fee or give spectrum to T-Mobile

I couldn't see it being anything like what AT&T did when they fouled up the merger with T-Mobile.

There's probably a better chance of it going through and Sprint having to divest some 2.6 GHz in the areas where they own gob tons of it.

So is anyone going to take advantage of the c-suite showing up in stores Saturday? I see they are taking part in stores on the sales floor and will be there to help out for Sprint Says Thanks.

Maybe a nice opportunity to meet some of the suits and such, ask some questions, or enjoy some coffee and a pokeball-z stop. Just curious if anyone else saw the event and was heading into the stores.

I like your thought process here. Prices will go up, but at the same time network will get tremendously better within the 1st 12 to 24 months . Do you think unlimited will stick around ?

If one comes to Columbus Ohio (Easton Location) I'll go in there and make some small talk but I'll buy a case or something. Do you happen to know the list of locations or link to where this info CS. Be found? I think this would be a great way for them to see first hand what goes on in the stores. I want one to deal with a situation where someone switched and the network was not up to expectations.

Unlimited would stick around but with the limits on video, games, and music like the T-Mobile One and the new Sprint plans.

Just pondering about the merger.... with trump in office why should Tmo/sprint divest if it was already theirs? There is an auction going on so let them buy spectrum just like the others? With a 143 million customers they shouldn't be given anything...

Even if they did merge they are just a close 3rd. How can they compete if they have to give up their assets? I don't think masa is wiling to let go of his prime property for 5g to merge when if he deploys it right they will come for free anyways.

We don't know if they'll be forced to or not but it can possibly be a clause to allow them to merge but I agree if sprint or SoftBank is willing to pay that large amount then I think they should be able to keep all of it.

Plus we can use all the spectrum

They have been filling muh tweeter feed with it today, mostly. I looked and I was unable to find a definitive list or press release. I looked around a bit.

Here is what I found.

Marcelo will be hangout out with IIIOG Hall of Fame wide receiver and based sports conditioning merchant Will Shields in KC

https://twitter.com/marceloclaure/status/809553907131252737

Mike McMahon will be in Apple Valley WI.

https://twitter.com/Sprint4GP/status/809455430871064577

Greg Post will be in Lakewood.

https://twitter.com/GregPost11/status/809457737369169920

Jay Gallegos will be in Tempe.

https://twitter.com/Sprint4Arizona/status/809458140395646976

Michael Miess will be in N Charleston; apparently carrying value direct2u in an excellent chariot, with awesome horses.

There seems to be a challenge associated with this as well. Nifty.

How much spectrum B41 does Sprint own? In some articles 120mhz was mentioned, in others it is 160.

It varies from city to city, but 160ish is the most they can own in a given city (IIRC they have 160+ in Sacramento and a couple other places, and the real max is higher, I'm pretty sure 160 refers to LTE-deployable spectrum). I think 120 is the average they have in the top 50 markets. They have 120 in Charlotte.

So to answer your question simply: it varies from place to place but it's usually around 120 for cities/large towns, and IIRC they have at least 100 in the vast, vast majority of places.

I have never been a fan of EVDO so I'd be happy to see it turned down sooner rather than later. I think the smartest thing to do regarding technologies would be to leave a single PCS HSPA carrier as well as a single SMR 1x Advanced carrier live while devoting the rest of the spectrum to LTE. Thoughts anyone?

Mobilitie in the news, again.

I sent a note to the reporter asking if he knew how to determine where they're located.  Would be nice to go find one of them.

I wonder if someone seen it go up in front of their place of work/play/sleep then complained. Mobillite had many names not sure if they used a different name in the process.

What has happened in New Orleans is that after years and multiple dozen of small sites went up people latter see the construction going on near them and complain. Then everyone acts like they had no idea was going on.

Just videos to show their was meetings with the city video has been posted before many times. I am just using it as a date reference

And then one year plus later saying that there was no talks with the city and that all the sites should come down and look at it again.  http://www.wwltv.com/news/local/orleans/cell-phone-towers-installed-illegally-in-french-quarter_20160630074929944/260336840

I could be wrong but from what I uncovered during my own research I'm pretty sure if it's a state road then state ROW procedure applies so the VDOT approval covers it and the county can't do anything.

It all depends on whether the road is state maintained or local maintained. I think the logic is that if the state is paying for the road and ROW maintenance they get to decide what to do with it. So if you've got an issue complain to VDOT for being too lenient I guess.

And I'm also pretty sure that this is backed by some solid legal precedent.

I'm not saying it's right and I don't like it when the tower cos move forward on stuff like this without consulting local residents, but if Mobilitie wasn't doing it some other company would. That's capitalism for you (and why regulation is necessary -- VDOT could lock this down if they wanted). And in my limited experience when a tower co tries to get community input it's always literally "not in my backyard/put it next to the freeway" and then when the tower co says they can't do that it's just an hour of "f*** you for lowering my property value" with no more constructive dialogue.

Oh, and the article is vague regarding whether Mobilitie deployed only on state roads or they deployed on local roads without local approval. The latter is illegal, but I have a feeling it's the former given the quotes from the supervisor about "loopholes" and "competitive advantages".

    • This has been approved.. https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/fcc-approves-t-mobiles-deal-to-purchase-mint-mobile/
    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No specific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.
    • T-Mobile Delivers Industry-Leading Customer, Service Revenue and Profitability Growth in Q1 2024, and Raises 2024 Guidance https://www.t-mobile.com/news/business/t-mobile-q1-2024-earnings — — — — — I find it funny that when they talk about their spectrum layers they're saying n71, n25, and n41. They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
