Network Vision/LTE - Colorado Market (Denver/Colo Springs/Fort Collins/Pueblo/Grand Jct)

...... Uhhhhhhhhhh. I just upgraded mine on a 2 year based on advice I got here. Is the network gonna end up like WiMax? Half assed?

Sent from my LGLS990

All the hardware is in place. We are just waiting on the fiber interconnects. This will not be like wimax, which relied on a seperate group of antennas for it's coverage. Virtually every Sprint tower is capable of LTE, and will be broadcasting LTE when the third party contractors finish the fiber backhauls.  When all the band 25 and 26 LTE is online it should be pretty good.

Finally picked up some B41 sitting at home. It's on the fringe, still a 4 mbps dl with Ookla. The upload is meh. I think this counts as progress though.

I wonder if they activated all the band 41 towers?

You mean throughout the city? They all uses to be on, I was getting great speeds at work forcing LTE on my phone until some time ago in June. Then nothing. A few weeks ago I started getting B25 at work, not very good, weak signal. Work is at centennial, Quebec and Caley. I'll see if I can pick up B41 tomorrow. I was bedridden today.

Yes, I just got LTE on band 41 at home today in the afternoon, that's why I was wondering

Well, I'm connecting to B41 at work, but the performance isn't good like it was before, I'm getting results for less than 1 mbps on a signal that would give me around 16 mbps before. Perhaps because eCSFB is online and more triband devices are connecting automatically.

lol anywhere that I sit for long periods of time does not have an active LTE tower close enough, yet.

A funny thing happened in West Greeley this morning. Connecting to a tower half way to Fort Lupton I'm on LTE at home now. Band 25 signal is not bad at just - 112 dBm. Moderate speeds in the 5-6 range with a ping time just under 200ms. I can't connect to the non LTE towers closer to the house for the moment, maybe they'll come on-line soon. Anyhow big deal for little Greeley.

Band 41 connections that went silent for the last few months around Aurora and the DTC(~Greenwood Village) are reappearing and Highlands Ranch is starting to light up. Big Woot! :D

My phone has been hanging to 1x800 all morning long here in Greenwood Village. Are they testing? I've cycled through airplane mode several times, defaults to 800.

David or one of the other SRGRU Staff/ In the know types will have to correct me on this I'm sure but I can tell you my N5 does this as well. Seems like it's something with the phone, maybe in the PRL? Once I grab onto 1x800 it stays on 800 until the signal completely drops and then it'll grab a 1xRTT (1900) signal.

Of course, it could be that you and I are just smoking crack but it sure seems like there is something to it.

Once you are connected to 1x800, your device won't look for a 1x1900 signal until it needs its. Only the iPhone actively seeks out a PCS signal over 800.

It's great that it likes 1x 800, I like the signal boost.

  • 2 weeks later...

Is sprint lte slowing down as more users get on it. i noticed that caste rock had 10/15 mbs no more like 3 mb/s

I was there today and hit 27mbps.

I doubt there's anymore people on it now than at any point over the past 6 months. castle rock has been LTE accepted for quite sometime.

Go to Tmo. They love HD TV streaming. They want you to do it on every site and every sector. Do it on several devices at once, while doing speed tests. You can also simulatenously stream music without counting against your data allotment.

Granted, you can't do this outside the city limits. But hey, what's a streaming HD guy gonna do? Ya know? Go with Tmo. Just make sure you don't miss giving Legere his back rub at 10:45 PM. That's your slot. He likes when you warm up the lotion first, though. ;)

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No specific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
