Google Nexus 5 by LG Users Thread!

Part of it is the phone has a refresh time for when it searches for LTE so if you lose it then get to another area with LTE right away it may not refresh to data connection and connect the LTE. There is an app that can periodically toggle airplane mode to fix this... Or you can do it yourself as needed. You can download nexus 5 field test from the play store to get easy access to the menu that let's you set enabled LTE bands and priorities.

Over time as the LTE coverage becomes more uniform and the network overall is fully integrated.. Basically when network vision is realized I imagine the issue will mostly go away as the network will be actively managing your phones connections to optimize customer experience as I understand it.

Yeah that's basically what I did. The network will ultimately decide what band your phone connects to so as myself and other users have found the band priority settings don't seem to make much difference. I think nationally for the time being users will overwhelming end up on band 25 which is the 1900 MHz LTE. The band 41 is the 2.5ghz spectrum that seems to be only running in spark areas and the 800smr is sporadically available across areas... In Indiana for example 800smr runs CDMA and 3g but not LTE right now as far as I have experienced.

Congrats on new device! Have fun. I know I still am.

I might just do that as Jr might be losing his phone privliges for a long time so I might give it a test drive????

So after you get your msl, how do you increase your LTE priority? I've been having major issues with my phone staying on 3g in areas where LTE is available.

You can't increase the priority of LTE. You can only change the preference for which LTE band the phone scans first.

800 is CDMA only (which technically is a 3G technology, but normally referred to as 1x) and will eventually host LTE as well. But no EVDO, which is what most people mean when they say 3G.

I've gotten eHRPD while on the 800smr... I assume that is different from 3g?

Your 1x connection is on 800. Your 3G (EVDO) connection is still on 1900 PCS, eHRPD is simply a software update to help with the handoff to and from LTE.

OK I think I understand. Any idea when the 800 spectrum will start hosting LTE and or 3g?

It will never have 3G EVDO, only 1x and LTE.

Please read the articles on the wall. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

It's pretty easy to get your MSL via chat as well. Occasionally you do have to try more than once, but if you go through the chat link inside of your account page, they give it right away. It should be enough to just say you would like it to keep in your records.

Takes two seconds with adb logcat command as well. No need to pick up the phone.

And I don't know what that is. And at the moment, there is too much weather going on for me to bother figuring it out.

At least someone around here pays more attention to their real job than S4GRU.. I know I don't..  :P

That app to toggle LTE mode that you are referring to is called LTE Discovery, the developer is a member here and there's a thread about it too. It's a great app, comes in handy if you are still in a market where LTE coverage is thin. I'm spoiled in a great LTE coverage area, so I don't need it  :P

Also, that Nexus 5 Field Test app just opens the same menus that the *#*#DATA#*#* and *#*#DEBUG#*#* dialer codes do. You still need your MSL in order to edit any LTE band settings.

Have you updated to 4.4.2? I initially thought it was OK, but after driving around town, they really messed the modem up. I'm going to flash back to the 4.4 modem as soon as I can root over Christmas break....

Is it the Vandelay app?

The radio you need is the one from 4.4 which ends in .17. The radio in 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 is the same.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I just assumed it was 4.4.1 since I didn't have any issues.

Well, I'm up to three Nexus 5s now.  Bought the daughter-in-law a 32GB B&W version for Christmas.

Got it charged-up with SIM (easily obtained from International chat support) installed and ready to activate.

She'll be happy to replace that old iPhone 4S that she's had to use since breaking her GS3.
