LG G2 Users Thread!

Can you tell me if my replacement phone would be brand new? In the tech support Corp store, they had one shipped and it's gonna be here tomorrow, but the only details I have are this:

Model Name: CPO LG LS980 LTE WH XCVER SNGL WITH SIM

And a serial number, plus SIM serial I think. Can't tell if that's new in box or if they even have refurb unless it's insurance related...I'm anxious over getting it.

With the device being so new, and not very popular among the average consumer, I would assume they would send out a new one. But, once again, just an assumption. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

CPO - Certified Pre-Owned... It's refurbished.

That being said, because of how new the model is, the phone was likely a 14-day return from someone who didn't like the phone or service. Most of these aren't phones that had issues, but they can't be sold as new anymore, so they are send out as refurbished after being put into a new casing.

I know this will not make you feel better as I know it would not make me feel better either. But, when I first bought my original Samsung Epic 4G. I literally went through 5 Epic 4Gs with the same buzzing earpiece issue. The first 4, I demanded a new one each time. The fifth one, I was tired of the fighting and they sent me a refurbished one and the refurbished one was finally the one I kept for 3+ years as it was perfect.

Per a Sprint employee(supposedly) on XDA, update for Spark scheduled for next 1/24.

Maybe an employee here can confirm.

Is there an echo in here? That was mentioned last night, a few posts before yours.. but it is big news if someone can corroborate it.

Got my G2 in today, and on the rtn menu it does show it's refurb. Also got an email with my msl included when I used Sprint.com to activate..don't even have to call and ask for msl now. And speaker problem is gone, although the timing is bad ...now that I can use my phone, I can't talk on it because I had ten extractions Monday and my mouth is...beyond sore!!

So you bought a new LG G2 on contract and you got a refurb version in the mail?  Wow that sucks.  I would exchange and complain to them that it is a refurb.

According to a Sprint employee, the G2 Spark update should begin being pushed out on Fri, 1/24. Hopefully this holds true and the Spark firmware update is the ZVA firmware version.

No, he said he sent his back for the earpiece problem.. refurb was shipped as replacement. Who knows, as someone else mentioned earlier, perhaps you are better off with a refurbished device. It might have gotten the extra attention needed to ensure there were no issues--like the earpiece problem.

Is it only if you claim insurance that they send you a refurb phone?  So I guess if you are just exchanging it within your first 14 days then they are suppose to give you a new one.

Y'all have more serious issues to deal with now... Apparently the G2 now suffers from post echoing. I seriously hope that LG addresses it on 1/24 with the Spark update. I just read about it on XDA. Any Sprint employee care to confirm?

I believe that someone had previously explained elsewhere that once you were outside the initial 14-day return period, you are not guaranteed to receive a brand new device no matter what avenue you are exchanging it through.

    • Another SCP beta is rolling out now, with some bugfixes as usual but also some fun new options to test: Non-standalone 5G-NR cells can now display Site Notes. This feature works in the same manner as how neighbor cell notes are displayed, requiring a PCI and your device's location. This option is enabled by default. As is the case with neighbor cell notes, you cannot edit NSA site notes directly unless there is an NCI being reported (which I have never seen); it uses the previously recorded standalone log entries. Like neighbor notes, if a cell has been previously logged but there is no note, you will see the distance information only.   Logging cells that are not reporting a valid PLMN is now possible. This option is disabled by default, but if you enable it along with two other options (log sites with missing GCI/NCI and to log sites with missing TAC), you should begin logging most NSA 5G-NR cells. A PCI is needed at a minimum, which is not always reported depending on your device and network factors. ("Sites" will be renamed to "cells" on the Preferences menu in the next update.)   Users can enable an option to display LTE cells above 5G-NR cells in the app if they choose to do so. This option is disabled by default. Should help improve the readability of your screen if you have NSA 5G-NR cells constantly appearing/disappearing. Please give these options a try and let me know if you notice any issues.. thanks!
    • Not yet. We probably won't see one submitted until construction on the new building is substantially complete.
    • Yes, that is where the site used to be. All the antennas were removed. I hope they add a new site soon. Have any permits been submitted for a new site?
    • Looks like there's a slightly taller building going up next door to where the decommissioned site used to be. Taking a look at StreetView, T-Mobile likely decommissioned the site because the east facing sector would blocked by the new building. If I had to guess, T-Mobile has already agreed to move to the roof of the new building and is just waiting for it to be completed to install the site there. What they should've done is just rearrange the sectors in the meantime but it seems like T-Mobile just bit the bullet and decommed the tower in the short term. — — — — — A permit was issued for a Sprint conversion at 150 Prospect Park West, finally filling in what is T-Mobile's largest coverage gap in Park Slope. Verizon is collocated on that building and AT&T has placed small cells along Prospect Park West to fill in coverage there while T-Mobile struggled using two sites, one at Grand Army Plaza at the far north and another at Bartel Pritchard Square to the far south.
    • Yep, you can see the site was taken down between Aug 2022 and Apr 2023.
