Samsung Galaxy S III

Most look like you need to be a new customer altogether. Amazon has it listed for $79.99 for new customers, $119 with add-a-line, and still $149 for upgrades..

Is anyone having a problem copying text in applications? All applications crash when I try to copy text. Chrome. Tweetcaster. Gmail.

I get this sporadically. A reboot usually fixes it for awhile. Other problem I've dIscovered Is the capItal I's In the mIddle of the words. Turning autosuggest off seems to fix it though.

Rebooting fixed nothing. Very frustrating.

Got my 64GB card in yesterday. My phone now has more local storage than anyone's...or tied to it...this side of Shenzhen :P

Good thing too...my phone started reporting my 16GB card (that came with my Epic) as damaged a couple days before. I'll have to try getting my data of of it to my desktop tomorrow. Hopefully that's possible...

I agree. This and the capital I keyboard problem needs to be fixed.

I've found the vibrate to be weak on the phone. I don't feel it in my pocket--always felt the Hero and the Shift. Major downside to the slim profile, I suppose.

I've also noticed I have to reboot the phone often to pick up 4G. Still in a developing market, so hopefully that problem goes away.

Despite those observations, I'm still happy with and would buy the S3 again.

I certainly hope the JB update fixes the calendar ANR problem permanently.

Also, has anyone noticed that the ##DEBUG# menu no longer has options available in it since the latest firmware update?

Saturday was a sad day for my S3. I remember taking a half day to get my phone from UPS the day they came. My wife took my phone with her sat cuase she could not find hers, and she dropped it and now the screen doesn't show anything. The screen still works in that I can unlock the phone and accept calls and everything I just can't see anything on the screen. $150 through insurance to get another phone. As I was on the phone with Sprint about to shell out $150 she tells me maybe I should buy another phone, because she has dropped her old Epic many times and it is still working. So i told her I don't drop my phone I'll be ok. The nerve. Anyway waiting for my factory refurb to come now. :wall:

Awww that sucks. Wouldn't be so bad if you had dropped your own phone but to have someone else do it (wife or no wife) has to be crushing.

I LOL'd when she said YOU should buy a phone.

Exactly like I was the one to drop it in the 1st place. My replacement should be here tomorrow and I'm hoping they had no refurbs in stock.

Interesting. They already did a big LTE optimization fix in the previous OTA (L710VPLG8), but some users still complain about even the new threshold setting. Maybe that tweaks that further to keep LTE connected with a weaker signal?

I've noticed when I leave a LTE tower the radio will go to sleep or something and not pick up LTE again for quite some time. I have to either reboot or toggle airplane mode to get it to scan/reconnect. I often wonder how many towers I've missed in Sensorly because of this.

Perhaps this is the fix?

I see something similar with EVDO. I travel through an area where I lose a native Sprint signal and when I get it back it's usually a weak signal, and it almost always is stuck in 1xRTT until long after I've traveled back into strong EVDO coverage or until I cycle airplane mode. I can even cycle airplane mode when the signal is weak and pickup EVDO again. In the event that it does switch back to EVDO, it's a lot of times very slow (sub-100kbps) until I cycle airplane mode. Not sure what the deal is. Running stock rooted LG8. This makes it nearly impossible to keep music streaming going without manual intervention. I've seen this happen on my Evo 3D too.

Do you guys think it is still worth it to get the SGSIII? My contract is up tomorrow, and the idea of a SGSIII has been tantalizing for a few months now, but the next flagship phones seem to be just around the corner. So, do you guys think that the Galaxy SIII will be relevant for about another year, or will the upcoming phones make it seem outdated?

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No soecific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
