That's Ericsson PCS and SMR RRUs. And the antenna next to it has Ericsson B41 and SMR RRUs.

Oh sorry—I was looking at the rack above the Sprint rack. That appears to be a standard Sprint Ericsson setup.

I know in my Market we won't see any massive mimo anytime soon ( maybe only if the merger falls thru ) but in a Ericsson market would we still see nokia massive mimo or does Ericsson have their own

Just now it tried to drop me to eHRPD then Sprint LTE 1900 and then finally back to T-Mobile.

Back from the store.  As a comparison, to show that it's T-Mobile, here's a screenshot of my T-Mobile phone from the parking lot (left it hidden in the car while we were in the store):

You can see that it's the same other than the PLMN.

On the way home, it connected to a different T-Mobile site on the back roads, but it appears that Band 12 is not currently accessible to it.

Also interesting that it still shows as roaming, even though it's using a "native" PLMN. I would have assumed that was used to determine if the R indicator should be shown, but apparently not.

I myself thought this roaming wouldn't kick in until a certain amount of miles outside of city limits... But I guess the roaming also exists withing city limits...

No Sprint has been tuning their LTE roaming lately. Sometimes it will switch to AT&T roaming instead of going to 3G. I had this happen in Berkeley, CA few weeks ago. Presumably it's a way to make VoLTE more reliable. Ideally they would have it prefer roaming LTE vs native 3G only while on a call, unless the roaming doesn't count towards your roaming allowance.

But why not just use the T-Mobile PLMN? Unless this is how they decided to control which sites allow roaming? It still seems odd though, no other roaming partners do this to my knowledge. Unless that's the way T-Mobile implements roaming for some reason, by using a PLMN of the partner.

PLM-NIDS can be used to prioritize or have special eNB side configurations for connected devices.

It's why Magic Box's  / LTE UE Relays have a specific PLMNID they connect to.

Following up, my phone also seems much more likely to connect to and hold US Cellular LTE roaming now.  I went by a tower with both Shentel and US Cellular on it, it happened to latch onto US Cellular LTE first (while connected to Shentel 1X) and held it all the way past the tower until I was just going out of range; saw just the LTE 800 briefly before moving onto the next Shentel site.
