Yikes! Though it doesn't make me feel that much better that it's currently 2F outside, and I need to get up and take the trash out. [emoji16]

I work out of Dulles, live in Woodbridge, VA. Was up at the FedEx station picking up load aircraft containers.

I’ve got some family out in Derwood too! Sprint definitely needs some more towers out there. Coverage really drops off in the area between Rockville/Gaithersburg and Olney, north of Norbeck Country Club. I report the network issues as often as I can.

Happy New Year’s!

Looks like Rootmetrics Maps are working again for Speed Test mapping in its Coverage Map App on iOS.

Did some speed tests walking around the DuPont Circle area of DC yesterday around lunchtime. Saw the hexes were updated with my Tests this morning! Great progress with more to come hopefully this year as more small cells/sites are deployed and as all sites are upgraded with all three LTE bands.

Yes. Absolutely!

Hopefully Dr. Saw (https://twitter.com/SprintCTO) and Joe Meyer (https://twitter.com/SprintNetwk) continue the strong advocacy for Sprint’s network tech that Günther did such a good job communicating on.

Made it out to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA today. (https://airandspace.si.edu/udvar-hazy-center) Amazing exhibits of planes, rockets, etc.. Of course I mapped the network a little too! B)

Are you saying Was? So that means some are active right now?  If so, Where?

Massive MIMO will make a huge difference in dense urban areas. DC’s in-town population has grown substantially since I’ve lived here. Tons of condos and new developments all over the place.

Pehaps we’ll get a sense of where things stand during the next Earnings Call. (TBD, but at the end of January I believe based on past practice.)

Speeds have definitely increased in the Logan Circle (DC) area even on legacy Clearwire equipment, but I think that is mostly due the config change. The business district (K St) continues to struggle, but I did notice either a new tower in Metro Center is online or Macy's installed a Sprint DAS because I had consistent B25 service throughout the store. Previously, I'd drop to 1x or no service.

Like you I hope we get a clearer picture on the next earnings call. I also keep watching this page to see if Sprint signs an agreement with DC Gov for small cells: https://octo.dc.gov/page/small-cells

I wonder how aggressively Sprint plans to swap out the Clearwire equipment as part of its CapEx surge. DC’s downtown core could really benefit from Massive MIMO. I’ll have to check out the Macy’s too!

Good find. I’ll keep an eye on that page too.

Sprint has really thrown down the gauntlet for this year’s “Big Game” in Minneapolis: http://newsroom.sprint.com/network-big-game.htm

......and those upgrades are permanent!

The preparation for the Presidential Inauguration in January 2017 seems like it was the last large scale CapEx surge for DC: http://newsroom.sprint.com/sprints-dc-network-ready-to-support-great-american-tradition-presidential-inauguration.htm

Here’s how Sprint prepared for the Pope to visit DC (and elsewhere) before that: http://newsroom.sprint.com/preparing-for-pope-francis.htm

And here’s the after-action report: http://newsroom.sprint.com/capturing-and-sharing-the-pope-francis-visit.htm

Perhaps we need a “Big Game” in DC! :D

I wonder even with all the upgrades if they will still have COW's; though it doesn't sound like they need it.

    • New SCP beta rolling out now.. gave this one some extra testing with the hopes that I have finally cleaned up the glitches with 5G NSA web uploads as well as some other minor bugs. Please keep an eye on your upload notification to see if you have an abnormally large number of "clusters" being uploaded compared to the number of pending entries you had. By default, the app includes up to 512 entries per "cluster", but LTE and NR entries are clustered separately.
    • Yup—the current plan is to go with the AT&T site in Greenwater and the Verizon site atop Grass Mountain, although there have been so many problems getting the tower physically built and backhauled that the AT&T site south of 410 is looking like a candidate.  I do some work in the industry; there is a lot a can’t share but some that I can . Permits are a good way to track movement; although permitting happens only very late in the process.
    • That's really nice to hear--seems like this is the trend nationwide in general. Lots of new collocations planned around rural MI and OH from what I've seen in from the American Tower site portal. Also, the Att site around Greenwater WA got a new Tmo collocations (no n41) but wasn't online when I was around that area.   Btw, how are you able to get information on collocations plans? Are there permits available in those areas?
    • Verizon vs T-Mobile at MetLife Stadium today for the Howard vs Morehouse football game. Verizon has clearly poured a ton of money into MetLife Stadium. Besides mmWave there's also a hidden WiFi network for Verizon customers that I started connecting to from the parking lot. Verizon's mmWave performed great as usual but n41 was no slouch. T-Mobile was running 120MHz n41 in the stadium. No idea why T-Mobile is reporting 1 bar when field test mode was showing -70dbm.
    • T-Mobile is planning on colocating on the Newhalem site that AT&T and VZW are on as well as the site in Trafton. There are no finalized plans to address the coverage gap west and north of Darrington, although it’s being looked at.  It would be nice to see them build out at Lake Cavanaugh too, but no plans to do that yet as far as I’m aware.
