Count me as really excited about possible consumer-purchaseable LTE femtocells.

Other than that, mostly stuff we already knew. Which makes sense since I'm sure he had a lawyer-moderator sitting next to him the whole time.

It's about the par for an AMA really but 40 something responses over a hour and a half is very, very respectable.

Too many local market questions crowded the AMA.  "When is Sprint going to convert remaining 3G sites or expand native coverage around West Timbuktu, Pennsylzona?"  It does not matter even if it is a major market.  Gunther is not in position to answer those minor local concerns, especially with specific dates.

The real missed opportunity, in my opinion, was not pressing him about CDMA2000 utilization, particularly eHRPD/EV-DO.  Sprint seems to be holding on to too much legacy bandwidth rather than ripping off the bandage.

Is this tied to standing up VoLTE? (For which he said: "VoLTE is on our roadmap and we'll make the move as soon as we can ensure that our customers have an even superior voice experience than today. It is tied to our densification and optimization strategy.")

I was glad he readily acknowledged the GMO issue when asked about it: "We have a specific program to deal with ground mounts in our Densification and Optimization program."

It sounds like this densification and optimization project is bigger than they've spoken about and just gave us the basic rundown without too much detail. People just think it's just small cells.

I took it as the right answer for any network question he didn't have an exact answer too.

How about cells over here - "densification and optimization"

That plan/program will be going on for years it's seems. The way he used threw it around it just about includes everything sprint is doing for the network.

I do agree a lot of questions were so market specific he wouldn't know about them off the top of his head.

But you are probably right- and I hope you are.

For the tens of people paying for Tidal high fidelity on Sprint that are concerned about Sprint's new unlimited plan capping music streaming at 500Kbps.  Tidal has its own issues.

This is very encouraging news:

Sounds like Sprint is firing on all cylinders. That Unlimited Freedom plan is a real draw, along with the promotions associated for new and existing customers.

Tidal is currently headed out to sea. I give it 6 months tops, before it closes shop or is acquired.

I just don't see this company making any inroads against the likes of Apple Music, Pandora or Spotify.

Geeze 107 unpaid bills. I think Tidal was written off by millions when they press conference had all those millionaires on stage complaining that they aren't being paid enough for their work. They kept saying Tidal is about the artist who are up and coming. A better approach would have been to have some indie artists on the stage to convey that message that Tidal is about the artist. People would have been more receptive of that. Then the $20 plan was over kill. The damage has been done.

That seems pretty good and similar to T-Mobile (T-Mobile says up nearly 4x from last year).

I know its semantic but Sprint is touting a 375% increase in sales of the iphone 7 compared to last year...iphone 7 wasn't available last year. So yeah...there will be a big uptick in sales kinda like how there will be a 100% increase in rain when there is a hurricane.

Not sure what you mean, iphone 6s and 6s+ were released this time last year.

The article didn't mention that they were comparing sales to the iphone 6. It just said iphone 7 sales compared to last year.

It's a very reasonable inference to conclude Sprint was comparing its current iPhone pre-order sales to last year's iPhone pre-order sales.

To be completely literal then the math would never work. To say there was any percentage of increase would be impossible since zero times any number would only result in zero. Therefore common sense implies a comparison to the sale of iPhones last year (AKA 6s/6s Plus)

Percentage increase = 100[(v₂ - v₁) ÷ v₁]%

If v₁ = 0, then percentage increase is ∞.

This is a silly discussion.

Many people are silly -- because they cannot write properly.  They do not know how to construct apples to apples comparisons.  To be correct, comparisons must be both logical and literal.

I stand corrected. My simplification to using multiplication and addition to calculate a percentage increase wasn't the actual standard formula for percent increase. There is a more complex and literal interpretation that also implies that the original assumption of comparing to the sale of the iPhone 7 from 2015 is absurd.

Of course it is :)

But by reading critically you can pick up on marketing spin...and people trying to mislead you.

So your saying that both him and Legere are just blowing smoke and not comparing it to previous iPhone releases.

Sounds like you are big on conspiracy theories.

    • Uploaded data without issues on Friday. Now with the latest update I am getting "Cluster #1 skipped: invalid file format detected. File exported for inspection." Doing same with all other clusters. Did this on 4 phones in a row.  Seems to work on s24 ultra just fine. On s21 ultra it says "web data upload failed. No data to send" although 8800 records were displayed. Now gives same error as above. I have not sent the data from 3 other phones.  All should have latest update.
    • After several months of testing, an update to SignalCheck Pro is rolling out on Google Play. It may take up to 48 hours to become available for download. Notable changes include: Added option to display site notes for NSA 5G-NR cells. Enabling this new option (Preferences > Display Settings > Show NSA 5G-NR Site Notes) will cause the app to make an "educated guess" as to what the most appropriate site note is linked to the connected NSA 5G cell, using the PCI and the device location. If it finds an existing entry that is likely to be relevant, it will display the note along with the distance from where the strongest signal from that cell was logged. While connected to NSA 5G, these notes cannot be edited; a valid NCI is required to add/edit notes and that information is not available on NSA connections.   Added option to log cells with missing/invalid PLMN (such as NSA 5G-NR cells). Users asked for the ability to log data for NSA 5G, so a new option (Preferences > Logger Settings > Log Cells with Missing PLMN) will permit this.   Added option to display LTE info above 5G-NR info. Enabling this new option (Preferences > Display Settings > Show LTE Cells Above 5G-NR Cells) shows the same information that is currently displayed, but moves the LTE information above the 5G-NR information. Other changes: Code optimizations and enhancements. Improved Android 15 compatibility. Overhauled Purchases module. Resolved force closes impacting some GSM/LTE connections. Resolved issue with improper 5G-NR PLMN display when NR/LTE PLMNs did not match. Resolved issue with improper PLMN display with single-digit MNCs. Resolved issue with incorrect 5G-NR bands displayed on some devices due to Android bug. Resolved issue with incorrect number of neighbor cells displayed when some cells were unknown. Resolved issue with missing 5G-NR data when sector display is enabled. Resolved issue with saving 5G-NR site notes when NR/LTE PLMNs did not match. Resolved issue with settings to log missing GCI/NCI/TAC/PLMN being ignored. Resolved issues with web data export function. Updated internal libraries. Updated provider database. Updated target API to Android 15. I appreciate all of your support, and a big thank you to the members of the Beta Crew that help with testing and feedback!
    • Oct security update is out.
    • Stopped by again today and the antennas are up but it isn't live just yet. If other Sprint conversions are anything to go by it'll likely take about a month for the site to go live.
    • It is an Android bug that was reportedly fixed in August 2023 but definitely has not been. I have implemented numerous workarounds in SCP to correct the NR bands the app displays. The OS ignores the possibility that many NR-ARFCNs are valid across multiple bands.. it reports the lowest NR band that is valid for the current ARFCN. In your example, channel 432530 can be n1, n65, or n66.. so the OS just (lazily) reports n1.   Awesome, thanks! I will add an n65 override also.
