Shentel / Sprint LTE - (was ntelos - West & N&W Virginia)

I got another brief connection with a Sprint 1x800 tower, and the BSL address I recognized from one of those far east of C'ville.  I believe it was due to a brief interruption in nTelos service where I was at the time.  It's impressive how far 800 can travel - this was probably about 15 mi away.

Anyone notice on the Sprint coverage map that Sprint has LTE coverage in nTelos land now....Here's a map of the Charleston/Beckly, WV areas.... (Cross posted in Marcelo thread)

If you zoom in further there is not coverage difference. It's all listed as Best Coverage with no fair coverage present. Either this is testing or Sprint is about to make an announcement this week.

It's the same with a small portion of Charlottesville Va and Stunton/Waynesboro Va now as well.

Everywhere nTelos has launched LTE is shown on the map. So it is "accurate."

After a restart, PRL update and airplane mode cycle I'm unable to connect to LTE in Beckley currently.

They probably haven't activated LTE roaming yet. Given that it appears on the map, I expect the announcement and activation this week.

Side note, PRL does nothing for LTE roaming. LTE roaming is dependent on the tower broadcasting Sprint's MCC MNC for Sprint handsets to connect to.

I doubt roaming would be displayed on the map like this. nTelos is a pseudo-native provider, so LTE roaming doesn't really factor in. However, the nTelos network may not be broadcasting the correct information for Sprint devices to pick up on the signal yet. Sprint seems to update their map several days, sometimes up to a week before they actually make announcements.

Ok, I'm "officially" switching over to CDMA/LTE and waiting for the lovely sound of those SCPro alerts!

(Please don't break my heart!)

Don't think nTelos has officially flipped the switch yet. Was in town for a good 5 hrs all in the orange area and no LTE what so ever. Did everything to try to get on it to and nadda. Hopefully soon. Any one else have any luck yet?

No luck in Beckley. Thinking of contacting Sprint customer service just for kicks about it.

It is now on the map, might as well see what they say... ;)

More of the usual. Was told to ##UPDATE# for the PRL and then told to reset my network settings. When neither of those efforts worked they just said the Team has been alerted to my specific issue and will fix it shortly.

Anyone notice how close it is to being exactly one year after the agreement being signed?? 5-22-14

I drove through all of Charleston on I-64 W yesterday a couple days ago and I was on Extended the whole time. Pretty disappointing. I don't know if that's because my phone held on to Verizon's signal better or what… I did install a carrier crack that according to the developer "basically increase the amount of Tx (transmit/uplink/upload) power on the device to its maximum allowed limits".

On a separate note, I was wondering if anyone knew if LTE was coming to Blacksburg soon. I just graduated from Tech so it doesn't matter for me too much now but I am curious… after all, nTelos is the Hokie football team's official carrier.

Wow had to look but Roanoke too!

I was in Roanoke at the mall this past Friday and didn't see a lick of LTE. I am a Sprint customer so don't know if that's the reason why I didn't see LTE

If you're talking about the stretch between Beckley and Charleston, no one has any coverage there. Also the roaming carrier in this area is USC not VZW. I believe I saw a small blip of LTE on Sprint's "new" map in Blacksburg so it is apparently there not sure how widespread.

For sure the stretch between Beckley and Charleston didn't have any service from Sprint or roaming partners. But specifically driving through Charleston from the SE to the NW, I was roaming the entire time and on 1x.

Blacksburg was just a WiMax Protection Site. They never advertised it. But it should still be functional.

I have ntelos and from what I have noticed where it says I should have best coverage in house or in building I have to go outside to get maybe a bar or two. So don't  be to excited when it comes online here in Roanoke they have some tinkering to do. But If at CrossRoads Mall/ Valley View Mall and TangleWood mall the LTE is pretty good.
