Network Vision/LTE - West Washington Market (Seattle/Puget Sound Region)

So first off I have a question. I usually have 2 servers around me when I do a speed test, but lately those servers near me don't show up. Those servers are Lynnwood and Bothell. Is there any particular reason for that? Part of NV possibly? On a side note, I was on a different server and to my surprise I got 2099 kbps down on 3g. That's that fastest I've ever seen on 3g. I was quite happy with that. That is all

I see speed test servers come and go all the time. I don't put much credence in their appearances/disappearances.

I check sensorly map often and it seems like that expansion in Olympia area stopped since week or two ago..

Yeah West WA seems to have stalled a little, hopefully it picks up again soon.

Are there big plans for expansion during April and May?

I was also thinking there wasn't any new activity on Olympia. A couple of weeks back I saw a spot on the west side appear on Sensorly so next time I was over there I tried to find the tower & its footprint. I was able to expand the footprint a bit but couldn't confirm that it was a new tower in operation. This morning I see that someone has mapped a new area joining that spot down to the bridge and around through the Port of Olympia - this wasn't there last time I went through that area.. Yesterday I was at Sears and was able to get 20 & 24 speeds. At home I can get 2 to 4 in my back or front yard but the signal isn't strong enough to get it inside. Hoping for some closer towers to go live soon.

Wanted to give an update. I was leaving school in Lynnwood, from Edmonds Community College, and I noticed my phone had 4g. But as soon as I saw it and went to run sensorly it dropped back down to 3g. Just wanted to share the news. I will keep checking and let anyone know when I get it again.

Have not seen anything in the U-District yet, hopefully it will hit the UW Campus and Medical Center soon. Then I'll be covered while at work. Home and play will need it to expand in the So Sound, Oly/Lac-East & Tac/Park/Span-South would bee good too!

I see that in the update thread that 3g only towers are being completed with very little LTE being done. Are they just trying to get the 3g out of the way first for some towers then coming back later to hook up the LTE? I thought they would complete both at the same time?

Each site gets 3G and LTE equipment installed at the same time (except for GMO sites). However, if there isn't upgraded backhaul available at the site when the Contractor is complete, Sprint allows them to hook up the 3G side to legacy backhaul and will at least accept that side so they can get paid. Contractors get paid for a site upon acceptance.

A 3G accepted site can have the LTE turned on pretty quickly and easily once the backhaul is in place and provisioned. We see this happen all the time in markets where a 3G site turns to 3G/4G in one of our daily updates.

It looks as though there is a new blip on Sensorly over in Redmond. It is on 124th St between Willows Rd and Woodinville Redmond Rd NE.

Yeah I mapped when I was going to the gym does anyone think this is a new tower?

My guess would be the church where the tower is disguised as a cross at that intersection.

And God said, "Let there be LTE," and there was LTE...

That's over by the Barking Frog, one of my favorite restaurants. I recommend the Grand Marnier Prawns. Emmmm....

Connected to LTE right now in Elk Plain on Hwy7 near Spanaway and Graham.

Started mapping with Sensorly, not sure when I first connected but I was sitting in the Fred Meyer Marketplace parking lot when I noticed it.

Looks like some of what I mapped as already appears on one zoom level of Sensorly. It's a bit sensitive out there, I would lose it almost right after pulling off of 224th.

Going to see if any appears on 176th between Spanaway and Puyallup, through Frederickson in a little while.

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No specific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
