1. There is now some more active LTE signals around Olympia/Tumwater. My GS3 normally displays the WiFi icon at home rather than 3G/4G so I it has been a while since I checked my home signal. Last night my WiFi was off and I went to use the phone about 10:00 PM and was pleasantly surprised to see the 4G LTE icon for the first time inside. I've had fairly weak signals in my backyard for a long time but they were never available inside. I checked Sensorly this morning and it didn't show any new (to me) LTE coverage areas. I had to go out an hour this morning so I mapped the trip and the new coverage areas are now showing on Sensorly. Network.sprint.com shows new data speed upgrades on a couple of towers including one on Rainier road. I drove right past that one on my trip and the signal is showing deep purple. Also parked outside the QFC store at Rainier & Yelm Hwy - this was always a roaming spot but in now LTE. My trip also filled in some more spots further towards downtown - on the Yelm Hwy and on Boulevard. Next time I go somewhere that isn't already mapped, I'll look for new LTE signals.
2. The Western Washington news thread hasn't been active for a while. This morning I had to drive through parts of Tumwater that showed up on Sensorly a couple of weeks back so I mapped my trip to see if anything new is happening. I mapped new territory along Henderson Blvd and Old 99 past the Olympia airport. I stopped at the corner of Old Hwy 99 and 88th to get propane for the grill & ran a speed test while waiting. The test showed 19m down and 8m or 9m up. Also mapped a new spot on Israel Rd but it wasn't continuous as I drove along. Had to use airplane mode to get it back. Later in downtown Olympia I ran another test and only got 9m or 10m down - in an area that I'd had 19m or 20m previously. My battery was getting low so I didn't map ot test anything after that.
3. I noticed a couple of new spots appear in Sensorly on I-5 in Tumwater this morning & I had planned to drive that way today so recorded the drive and was able to expand on the LTE footprint slightly. Data is uploading at the moment. Must be a new tower somewhere around Tumwater.
4. My GS3 wouldn't allow me to attach the screenshot via Forum Runner but was able to email to myself after reducing the size. Here is a copy. https://plus.google.com/photos/114293595661830064152/albums/5316179753261785649/5877149376204257810?banner=pwa&authkey=CNCfk6Wi95bP4QE
5. I am about 5 to 6 miles from the nearest known LTE tower in Olympia but can get a weak signal in my yard. The signal doesn't penetrate inside though. Close to the tower in Lacey I've had 31 down but the best I've had from my yard is 4 to 5 and is usually 3. They're is another tower somewhere close to downtown and I've had really good speeds there. Yesterday we were at Anthony's Percival Landing for lunch and I noticed the speed was really good so ran a check - tan a half dozen which were all between 30 and 38. Attached is a screenshot of the fastest. During the week I noticed an LTE signal of Carpenter and 37th as well. This doesn't show on Sensory so will map out next time I'm in that area. 6. I was also thinking there wasn't any new activity on Olympia. A couple of weeks back I saw a spot on the west side appear on Sensorly so next time I was over there I tried to find the tower & its footprint. I was able to expand the footprint a bit but couldn't confirm that it was a new tower in operation. This morning I see that someone has mapped a new area joining that spot down to the bridge and around through the Port of Olympia - this wasn't there last time I went through that area.. Yesterday I was at Sears and was able to get 20 & 24 speeds. At home I can get 2 to 4 in my back or front yard but the signal isn't strong enough to get it inside. Hoping for some closer towers to go live soon.
7. The weather in Olympia has been rainy most of the week and I've not been motivated to look for signals. A few days ago I mapped a trip from home and when I got to my destination, Sensorly indicated 20 LTE points so I uploaded it. To my surprise, the map showed this was really close to my house which is about 6 miles from the LTE tower in Lacey. I've since found that I can get a weak signal from my house. Nothing inside, but if I run LTE discovery from my back or front doors it finds LTE. when I run a speed test, it often bombs out when trying the upload part though. attached are a couple of screen shots. Any comments from the experts about the signal strength or other info from these? I can't wait for a closer tower to become active. 8. I've visited Lacey a couple more times and uploaded data to Sensorly. The area mapped is getting larger but still appears to be from that single tower. Coverage seems to be expanding along I5 from Centralia to the north too. Hopefully there will be Tumwater coverage soon.
9. Just got back from a trip to Lacey & uploaded data to Sensorly. Crazy fast speeds there. I ran 5 tests and the fastest was 52 ping, 23371 up, 10587 down.
10. I read that there was a signal near Olympia airport so I took about a 3 mile detour to get to work this morning so that I could map it via Sensorly. Unfortunately there were no signals to be found. But - at lunch time I had to go to the Wells Fargo branch on Sleater-Kinney and Pacific. When I got out I thought I'd check and right away I saw my first 4G icon light up. Ran a bunch of tests with Sensorly and Speed Test & the fastest was 63 ping 8734 down, 4432 up. CDMA Field Test told me the tower is located close to St Martin's University (BSID 601). Also tried Open Signal but it locks up right away (need to get an update I think). I turned Sensorly on for the drive back to work and created a nice deep purple route for about 3 miles back towards downtown before it went back to 3G about 1/2 mile from downtown. Will try some more mapping over the weekend.
11. I read on this forum yesterdat that Olympia has been accepted so I let Sensorly map my trip in to work. When I got out of the car Sensorly indicated 60 4G points. This morning I looked at my trip the Sensorly site and it shows a lighter purple shade - close to downtown just south of I-5 where Eastside St becomes 22nd Ave. Will try to map some more over the next few days. Also, at home in East Olympia, 3G speeds have increased lately. I mostly get between 1m and 1.8m download. Just ran a test using Speed Test and got 136 ping, 1348 d/l, 763 u/l. Ran the test again with Sensorly's test and got 1.17 d/l and .66 u/l. Downtown speeds are slow though.
