I’m not shocked at that. When news broke that they were planning to let go of boost I immediately thought, “boost could be player #4.” They already have millions of subs as is. Then it kills the argument of less choice. Downside is we’ll now have a smaller player at a “disadvantage” that Sprint and T-Mobile are complaining about currently.

My thoughts are if the DOJ are going to absolutely require Sprint and T-Mobile to help create another 4th Carrier, the Sprint should give up Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile and T-Mobile should give up Metro. Then all three of the Pre-Paid brands can merge under one of the names. And The New T-Mobile can allow the new 4th Carrier to be a Pre-Paid brand and freely Roam on its New T-Mobile network.

Another possible option would be for Sprint and T-Mobile to sell all of their Pre-Paid brands to US Cellular or Comcast or Dish and one of those could become the 4th Carrier.

Exactly unlike Sprint which is encumbered with astronomical amounts a debt which is unfortunate. Boost doesn't have any debt so they could build out a network unencumbered. I'm still going to see what happens before I have any final thoughts.

I was against this merger from the beginning. And now, after seeing that Sprint & T-Mobile are willing to divest spectrum, I'm more against it than ever before. Hacking apart 2 companies to make 2 more makes absolutely no sense. T-Mobile and Sprint have way too much debt now, and they will have even more after the merger. At this point, the FCC should withdraw their approval, the DOJ should sue to stop it, and the 2 companies should just go another route. There are plenty of other companies that have plenty of money and can afford to absorb the debt load of either company.

Otherwise, if Sprint & T-Mobile are allowed to merge, prices will have to be raised to astronomical proportions just to afford the monthly debt payments, and even then, The New T-Mobile could still fail, the new 4th carrier could still fail, and where would we be? 2 nationwide cellular carriers! This show from Legere and Claure needs to stop! It's gone off the deep end!

I hope not. They need all the spectrum. Tmobile is getting a congested network now. If they have to give some up how will he network handle Sprint Customers on it?

Then the government should compel dish to sell the spectrum. Because those backwards morons aren't even using it.

Yes they should. They should make dish cough up all its low-band spectrum. To help the carrier be competitive.

If dish will be made to cough up all its spectrum that it's hogging then then Sprint will be in a better position

Well maybe petition the government to have dish fork over the spectrum. Make them do a wireless version of eminent domain on dishes behind.

Well what the FCC could also do is revoke their licenses to the spectrum. That would force this to give it up.

Yeah, then it would go to auction in which Sprint would have no money to participate.

I don't think that Dish can even be brought into this. Yes, it seems insane to make Sprint and T-Mobile divest spectrum when Dish has so much, but let's not pretend that the current FCC and DOJ have any interest in things that would benefit CONSUMERS.

That's what the deadline is for. If they don't use enough of it buy the deadline then their licenses get revoked.

      Kind of amazing that T-Mobile is still holding onto that speed title despite Verizon all but killing off lowband 5G on their network. While Verizon is mostly being evaluated on mmWave and C-band performance, T-Mobile and AT&T's average 5G speeds include their massive lowband 5G networks that are significantly slower.

      Yup. Very true. We were originally on an Everything Data 1500 Plan, which got Unlimited Minutes thanks to Marcelo's "Loyalty Benefits" offer. We then switched to Unlimited Freedom (with the Free HD add-on that Sprint originally wanted $20/month per line for.... remember that?) because the pricing was better with "iPhone for Life", vs. the "Loyalty Credit" for staying on a Legacy Plan. After that, I ran the numbers and switched us over to Sprint MAX, especially for the international travel benefits. There's absolutely no reason for us to switch to Go5G Plus or Go5G Next if we're going to do BYOD by purchasing from Apple/Samsung/Google directly as we've been doing. These new plans aren't priced for current customers to switch to. They're priced for new customers, where they throw in a free line, etc. It's gone from "Uncarrier" to "Carrier". What a shame.

      Strange business model that they keep around all these pricing plans. 1000s of plans per carrier is reportedly not uncommon.  Training customer support must be a nightmare. Even MVNOs have legacy plans. A downside of their contract mentality I guess. Best to change contracts during a recession. But then all carriers try to squeeze out legacy plan benefits as they grow old.

      Everything "Uncarrier" is becoming "Carrier" again. Because of the Credit Limit that T-Mobile put on our account for no reason at all (and wouldn't change/update the last time I checked all the way up to the CEO), I don't plan on buying/upgrading our iPhones through T-Mobile. I'm going through Apple directly. Looks like I'll be going through Google and Samsung directly for our other lines for upgrades. Also, we're staying on Sprint Max given the ridiculous pricing for Go5G Plus. On Sprint Max, we currently pay for our Plan: $260 for 7 Voice Lines $25 for two Wearable Lines. (One is $10/Month. The other is $15/Month because the AutoPay discount only applies up to 8 lines.) Total: $285/Month vs. Go5G Plus (Per the Broadband Facts "nutrition label" on the T-Mobile Website): https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce/cell-phone-plans $360 - ($5 AutoPay Discount x 7 Voice Lines) = $325 The Watch Plans show as either $12/Month or $15/Month: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/affordable-data-plans/smartwatches So this is about the same for the wearables as what we're paying now. Overall, it's quite more than we're paying now to switch plans. Ridiculous....
