I want it.  But I won't have the funds until next year, if I'm lucky.

You should start another donation drive.

Please, everyone, help out a poor site admin get a new handset.  If even 40 of you would pledge only $10 each, that suffering site admin could put in his preorder tomorrow.

I certainly could not endorse something like that.  However, I don't recall ever turning down a gift before.

We should do what we did with last year's Moto X. Have people put in for it, have staff use it for tests and the like, and then choose one of the people who put up the initial monies to get it raffle-style.

I want this phone, I'm going to wait for real world battery tests. I go to work at 3 am and cock out at 2 to 4 pm so I'd like a long lasting battery. 1 day a week I listen to music over headphones for a hour and half at most. Most reviews that I have read about the Play version say the camera is so-so, I'm not to worried about it as long as I takes decent pics and videos. And 1 question whay do you guess thing will be the usable memory for the 16gb version. My note has 32gb and my only s5 had 16gb, I know both(and they Pure) have a micro SD card but for apps that don't use memory card or system stuff, I like to keep it as empty. I've seen enough phones that have a update or a large app and not have enough internal space.

We could try, but I doubt that we would get the same uptake.  Many of our members -- including the tech editor, yours truly -- will put in their own preorders tomorrow.  We know that 2015 Moto X will work on Sprint.  In fact, if ordered from Motorola, it can be kitted with a Sprint 4FF nano SIM in the box.  So, we will have no shortage of people testing out the new Moto X on Sprint.

Last year was a different story.  The 2014 Moto X looked like it was headed to Sprint, then became exclusive to Republic Wireless.  Almost no members except myself were willing to purchase in that situation -- because the chances of activation on Sprint were slim, and they did not want to add a line on Republic.  Still, members were interested enough in the possibility that they funded our experiment.

Staff has also talked about trying this funding/raffle campaign for every major handset released on or compatible with Sprint.  We could build up a large body of empirical RF testing, comparing dozens of current and past handsets.  It could also be the major source of donation funding for S4GRU, though that would probably require us to collect donations that total 25-50 percent more than each handset costs.  And with so many raffles, I wonder if S4GRU could garner some IRS scrutiny at some point.

On other recent Moto handsets, does anyone here have experience with the bamboo back plate?  Is the wood smooth and slippery?  Or does it possess decent grain and grip?

Now that I'm home and looking at phone, the more I want it which will then allow me to give my G3 to my mom which she can replace the Nexus 5 I gave her.

I'm not too worried about the picture quality either. I don't take as much pics like my sister or buddies do, and I sure heck don't take videos.

It will be a tough choice between this phone and the new Nexus 5. I like the better camera and battery. For me it will come down to the cost of a 32GB n5 vs 32GB Moto X

My solution -- get both.

I'm Canadian. I would really like to use Moto Maker. But Motorola is seriously trolling us Canadians by not releasing the phone in Canada and requiring a US address and credit card to order online.

Is anyone aware of a reputable service I can use to purchase one online?

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No specific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
