The 4s is going to be horrid running iOS 8. Time for an upgrade!

My company doesn't do BYOD. I have to use their device. And they give out 4s's and pat themselves on the back for being hip and cool by using iPhones. They seem oblivious this thing is a dinosaur. And its not worth sticking my neck out to complain over a phone since I pretty much use my personal phone anyway.

If and when they switch you to (probably a 5 or 5s), it will be night and day.

I think the lease deal is a good one and works well for apple devices in particular since they do a pretty good job of keeping them up to date for at least 2 years.  I see Sprint doing very well with this.  I don't really see why you would do easy pay for an iPhone 6 since both are basically a two year contract and if you break it you have to pay it off (unless you have insurance of course).

I wonder with the lease if you could do the applecare plan.  They usually just replace the phone if broken.  Do you have to turn in the exact same phone (IMEI match) to be within terms?

Lol. Exactly. And the thing is with these customers, they ARE most likely going to get the next device in 2 years time.

Johnny is correct, iPhone 4life is a 2 year contract scam ...

... Except that you don't pay anything up front, pay less for hardware, oh and the service plan is also less (buy about 35 bucks) than a contract price.

So yeah :-/

If a lease is a contract scam then a financing plan is also.  I really don't see much of a difference except at the end of the lease you give the phone back and at the end of the financing plan you can keep the phone, but most people upgrade anyway.

It does not matter if you lease or buy, if you leave the carrier before the phone/lease is paid off you owe the balance.  If you break a phone it does not matter if it is leased or financed you have to pay it off.  It's not like we are talking about cars where after you pay off a 5 year loan you can likely drive it for 5 more years.  Most people upgrade on a 2 year cycle, so what is the downside to the lease option?

Actually the best would be for Sprint/Softbank to contribute to the cost of having this website up and online.  They are the ones receiving the rewards.  I know had I not found this website, I would have left Sprint myself over 2 years ago after suffering since I switched from Nextel to Sprint many years ago.  I am still suffering with service but at least S4GRU has turned on the light at the end of the tunnel.

Unless things have changed, in regard to having Sprint/Softbank sponsor/contribute to the cost of s4gru, I believe it was brought up a while ago in another thread and the consensus was that it may not be good in the long run. Sponsor like any member sure, but sponsor in the form of a partnership where they (Sprint) can dictate what is said or not, then no was the majority consensus. But that was all before with Hesse in charge and Son micromanaging everything. Now with "I'll take it from here boss" Marcelo it may be worth re-visiting this topic once again. He has shown so far to be very good in sweeping out the bad and bringing in what works rather quickly. Considering that s4GRU has been in the forefront of relaying the status of network deployment much better than Sprint does themselves and keeping customers in the loop, he may just be open to such a partnership with s4GRU. Especially since he currently does this with his stance on keeping his employees and customers in the loop.

So you wonder when Marcelo Claure is going to offer robert and a few other guys on staff here a job. Now talk about a management shake-up :rasp::D

As for offering Robert and the staff working with Sprint. I would be inclined to say it won't happen, but I've seen stranger things before (Google buying Motorola for instance). Regardless, considering that Marcelo refused to do 2 separate email accounts as per his executives and will only have one email at the company, (as per one article recently), maybe Robert should email him his ideas directly.

As for Marcelo joining S4GRU as a member, it would be cool if he did. Or at least someone high up in the marketing, network, or device departments. More times than not, executives do not get involved in online discussion rooms to see first hand the desires and issues their company may have from the very people that are using their services.

Just confirmed at a sprint store the buy back matching the price from t-mobile. $350 buy back for my iPhone 5s here I come! Thanks Tmobile for providing me with a way to not only get the $299 64gb iPhone 6 for free, but to make $51  which will cover my activation fee. I essentially only have to pay $150 for my early upgrade fee. This is awesome lol.

The difference between the lease and the buy (either easy pay or subsidized), is that on the LEASE, you must pay the full replacement price for the device if you lose or break it.

If you are BUYING, you can instead buy a CHEAPER or USED replacement phone.

So, if you are LEASING, its probably much better if you get INSURANCE, versus if you are BUYING, you can probably save money buy not getting insurance and then just deal with a cheaper or used replacment.

I'm pretty sure Roger Cheng from CNET has a man crush on Johnny. He is ALWAYS tweeting how awesome tmobile is.

Roger Cheng was in a photo with John Legere when the Pink Flamingo crashed an AT&T cocktail party and was escorted out by security.  So, yeah, Cheng, like so many of the tech press, has a thing for Legere and a built in bias for T-Mobile.

I'd rather work in the device department.

The MID RANGE device department.

I understand the difference between buying and leasing, I was comparing FINANCING to LEASING.  For sure if you are on Easy Pay or any other carriers finance plan and lose/break a phone or leave the carrier before the phone is paid off, you will owe the balance due.  So Johnny trying to say Sprint's Lease is a "contract" while his financing is not is a lie and he knows it.

Do you know if you preorder online and have the new phone shipped to your home if you can still go to the store to do the buyback?

Damn, I should've asked that for you while I was there. Sorry, I don't know. I am not pre-ordering, rather walking in next friday and everyday after that until there is a 64 gb space grey iPhone 6 available lol. The store is less than 1 minute from me.

Also..I asked if I could be placed on a list to have one held for me, and they said they can not. The only way would be to pre-order, which I clearly can't do unless I don't want to have a phone for an entire week.

If you definitely would wait two years for a new phone, and are OK with the insurance upgrade, then the iPhone4life program seems to be a good fit for a lot of people.

I have too short of an attention span to commit to a device that long. I must try them all! I must try them all! However, my work iPhone 4s is sure starting to cramp my style!

I can't see myself with having a device for 2 long years anymore, its either every year or less. Too bad my wallet doesn't agree with me. lol

So, I was looking at adding a 2nd line just for the iphone4life;

@ $35/month for 128g/6+ times 24 months = $840

and not keep the phone. to save $109.

or pay the extra $109 and keep the phone, to either resell and re-coop money or keep as backup/ipod or family hand me down.

Whereas the 16g/6 @ $20 times 24 months = only $480, to save $170 vs $650 full retail.

So if you plan to lease, it might be better to go with the basic 6/16gig, vs the maxed out 6+/128gig.

or just buy the phone (via easypay, contract, or put it on credit card) and sell it later when you upgrade.

So, in other words, the 'lease' you are still paying for ~75% of the device while keeping 0%, not to mention the additional costs of insurance you really should get in case you lose or break it and have to pay full price for it (assuming they do not pro-rate the pay off).

Don't forget the $240 in savings from the plan savings.

I was surprised he didn't mention anything about B26. Also, other than his change to focus on specific sites that have the worst performing, it sounded like he wanted to focus on some cities for short term wins. This seems to indicate cities like Chicago would fit in thus list that have all three bands and second carriers activated so they can add customers.

you mean the $50 plan?

that is irrelevant to my statements above, you still get the $50 plan on any of the 3 plans; lease/easypay/contract.

Sprint up 21% in three days since introducing the "iPhone for Life" plan

Source: Bloomberg

Went to the store today, sold my iphone 5 for $231 and upgraded to the i6.  They pushed this so hard. Everyone was upgrading and I think four people when i was there took the offer.

There is really only one reason to go for the lease, and that comes down to living above your financial means, you simply can't afford the extra ~$50 down and $7 a month for easy pay (or putting it on a credit card).

That, and you don't care about paying for 3/4 or more of something and not keeping it.

When I was in Chicago two weeks ago with my Iphone 5, the service was great.  I was really surprised how well it was and I was limited to only the B25 carriers.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
