Breaking Band: Tri-band LTE / eCSFB issues thread

Recommended Posts

it doesn't connect to LTE

Edit: it connects. Signal check just wasn't showing anything

If you have Pro, try enabling "Show hidden data" and see what happens.. I *think* this is CSFB-issue related. The phone is not reporting an LTE connection, but it is seeing signal strength. I have seen it myself a few times, still trying to narrow down the specific situations in which it happens.

I did that and it shows up inside the app but nothing in the status bar.

That is because the phone is not reporting an LTE connection.. it is seeing a signal (and apparently connecting to it), but for some reason it is not reporting LTE as the active mobile data connection. I am away with family for the holiday, but next week I will be doing more digging with this. I do suspect is has to do with the CSFB issues since I have only seen it myself in areas where that is known to be causing a problem.

I don't know if anyone in this thread is in Northwest Louisiana (Shreveport/Bossier area), but just wanted to say that I can confirm that 2 towers have been updated here. I was able to pick up LTE and make phone calls today while connected to the tower by LSUS and the tower serving Airline Dr between 220 and I-20. Dunno if that helps anyone, but I'm glad to see some progress here. This is not an official LTE area yet so I was not expecting to see any fix to the ECSFB problem for a long while, but it seems they are doing something.

There's a bunch of sites upgraded and ready and hopefully turned on in Shreveport. Surprised they haven't launched it official yet. Check into being a sponsor and you can see all the site statuses. It's only a few dollar or so.

is dc affected by the eCSFB issue because i can connect to lte on my iphone 5 but not my nexus 5

Yeah, the incumbent market piece of the eCSFB issue is about capability. Non-incumbent markets can not work with eCSFB at all without NV 3g upgrades. Incumbent markets are capable, but they still need site/core updates for it to work.

There are a few that have been turned on, but most of the cities( Shreveport and Bossier are kind of like one big city here) are still 3g only. And all the towers that have LTE turned on were not upgraded to be eCSFB capable. I was getting LTE in some areas around town on my last phone but the Nexus 5 didn't pick up any LTE unless forced. I already am a sponsor and know the site statuses. I was only posting to confirm that the eCSFB issue had been fixed on a couple sites. That information is not shown on the sponsor maps.

I just checked the maps and there must be CSFB issues as there's way more than just a few upgraded in Shreveport.  Quite a few sites kicking LTE there.

I live here.  And in my job, I am in different parts of town every day.  I notice when the sites start kicking LTE.  The maps show many of the sites upgraded but they haven't all been turned on yet as this is not a launched market yet.  Also those 3G sites around the outsides of the city are still part of the city.  The sites that do have LTE turned on have only been on for a couple months.  My initial post was just to say that yesterday I noticed that at least 2 of the sites had the eCSFB issues fixed.  The maps only show upgraded sites, they do not specify if the site is eCSFB ready.  My post was only meant to be information to any that might want it.  Trying to give back some to the site on top of my donation.  I don't know why you insist on trying to correct me.

EDIT:  Just to clarify why I insinuated that only a few sites have been upgraded: Many of the sites that are not turned on still are in heavily trafficked areas.  So it seems like most of them are not turned on.  For that I apologize for misspeaking.

I guess it's just my area having the issue. I went out to Bowie which is still the Dc market and I can connect to LTE

Well it doesn't immediately resolve your situation, but at least you know it's an issue with the network and not your device. So based on your experience in that area, SignalCheck shows LTE properly in Bowie, but not in DC? Just trying to confirm it is consistent with my observations.

Thanks,

-Mike

Well, first, you must add the mobile hotspot option to your plan. Have you done that?

No, was planning on using a tethering app, since Sprint wants you to pay extra for that. Just wanted to know if I would be able to get 4g lte at all or would be cursed with only 3g. I would like to know this before switching my number to the nexus 5. So to restate my point, would i be able to force the nexus 5 to get 4g lte and switch back to 3g when ready to make calls?

Sorry, if you are planning on doing that, shame on you. That is abuse of "unlimited" data, a violation of Sprint's Ts and Cs, which you signed. So, S4GRU does not allow discussion of unethical tethering.

Bro just stop with the tethering. Your killing me here. Read the rules. Also why would being on LTE prevent you from making calls. That doesnt make any sense.

So it turns out that it's only my tower with the eCSFB issue. All the towers around it are fine and allow me to connect to LTE. I wonder if opening a ticket would speed things up

Open a ticket and be sure to let them know you have 4 devices. Two of yours and two of other LTE devices. That way they can't say your device is bad.

I was looking on the Sprint Community Forum and a person there posted a really easy way to get your MSL code on the G2.

If you already knew this, or I am duplicating a post, I do apologize.  I want to share this just in-case.

Wow ROFL...it does work.  I didn't know this but this is super useful and is no doubt the quickest way to get your MSL.  I am going to credit you for this finding over at the XDA thread.

Yeah, you gotta look quick though...

I actually posted this in the wrong forum.  I thought I was in the G2 forum. Sorry.

This was posted on the G2 thread a while ago. I think it only works on LG devices.

I didn't see that.  People kept saying call or chat with Sprint or connect your phone to adb and do logcat to search for a 6 digit number for your MSL.

I didn't see it either.  I used chat to get mine.
