  1. Mine keeps losing lock. Maps will stop moving for a while until lock is regained. Works for a bit and then the process starts over.
  2. My GPS worked in KitKat but has been flaky at best with lollipop. Glad there is hope on the horizon.
  3. Does anyone know if unlocked T-Mobile versions still won't activate on Sprint? I know it was an issue in the beginning, but I don't recall if it ever got resolved. Thanks!
  4. So far GPS is working better post update. I would lose lock every few minutes before and I made a 30 minute drive with no issues under heavy clouds. Hopefully it wasn't a fluke.
  5. I would like to understand the logic behind not offering this phone for post-paid customers. Given the move away from subsidies, you would think a nice low cost post-paid option would be encouraged. They obviously did all the work to make it available on the network. Why cut off half your potential users? Doesn't make sense...
  6. When I was in Ottawa a while back I picked up a Petro-Canada mobile sim card for my nexus 5. Worked well for my purposes... http://mobility.petro-canada.ca/default.aspx
  7. I have been noticing positive changes in the Manassas to Culpeper route 28 stretch recently. I picked up Band 41 out in the Midland area this week and observed seamless hand offs between all three bands as I traversed down 28. I actually flipped to band 26 in a spot where my LTE almost always drops back to 3g. The band 26 signal levels are still on par with band 25, so I am hoping there is more optimization to be done, but it's improving...
  8. Has anyone noticed a problem with the latest developer preview? I have only seen good things so far... very tempting...
  9. Yeah, just add a couple 'from' entries in the pop up menu.. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  10. Under settings\SMS there is an option to select between carrier number, google voice number and smart reply mode. Sounds like you are in smart reply mode. Its not very convenient, they need the option on the chat screen.. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  11. Picked up band 41 out in Catlett, south of Manassas. Wimax never made it that far so it must be NV2. It also looks like they put microwave dishes on the same rack. Guess they got tired of waiting for fiber... Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  12. I have received amber alerts on my nexus 5 Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  13. Anyone else notice decreased battery life after the update? Mine is considerably worse now. I have tried parking it in 3g mode but that doesn't seem to help. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  14. Whoa! Let's put the pitchforks down. I know conspiracy theories are more fun but maybe they actually found a show stopper? I am sure it won't be much longer... Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  15. Bummer! I was really hoping it wouldn't be much longer since most of the sites already have the backhaul upgrades since they were only 1X before. I know up west of Erie the towers all have upgraded backhaul as 3G actually works. We were stuck with 1X prior to any NV work. Oh well...
  16. Does any one see the Hangouts SMS APN settings menu option? I am on version 2.0.217 and don't see the talked about option. Ideas?
  17. Speaking of swapping sim cards, I learned a few things recently. If you are trying to activate a new domestic prepaid sim card, make sure your phone is in global mode before putting in the new sim. It needs to be active on the gsm bands for the initial programming to take place. It took me a while to activate an H2O wireless sim card because mine was set on LTE. Without the global setting, it wasn't receiving the initial programming and the sim card wouldn't activate. I just activated a PTEL prepaid last night, set it to global mode, and it activated in a matter of seconds. On a side note, anyone know how many times this little sim drawer can be popped out and not start falling out?
  18. It seems like the intent of the new policy would enable Sprint world phones to be unlocked and used domestically, but i guess we need to wait and see... My wife has a new Moto X that was paid in full. There should be nothing stopping her from using a domestic GSM SIM if desired.
  19. I just got back from a trip to Canada with my Nexus 5. After reviewing my options I decided to go the local prepaid sim card route. I went with Petro-Canada which is offering a $5 micro sim with a minimum of a $15 top up to the account. I then used $10 of the account balance for an allocation of 100MB of data. Each additional MB after the 100 is only $0.10 too so there is no penalty for running over. The only gotcha I ran into, being new to gsm/umts, was the need to program the APN settings. Petro-Canada doesn't make it entirely clear either. Well at least it wasn't for me. They have settings on their website but they are listed under MMS settings. Anyway, once I got it working the Nexus performed well and I had plenty of data available for my short trip to the north. The plan did not include any LTE connections but I was able to connect to HSPA+, as indicated by signal check, so my speeds were very good. When I got back I swapped my Sprint sim back in and everything worked as expected. So if you find yourself headed north, check out Petro-Canada. It worked very well for me.
  20. I have seen the roaming indicator on an 800 MHz call when in LA. Haven't seen it in the DC area. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  21. Not sure about that, but its not doing the 30 seconds of nothing every two minutes anymore.
  22. It looks like the update also fixed the constant 1X/3G cycling when in non LTE areas.
  23. Can someone help me understand if I am crazy? I will be in Canada for a couple days next week so I chatted with international support to add the Canada voice plan to my account. I know the Nexus is unlocked, but for the short duration I will be there it doesn't make sense to get a local prepaid. Anyway, shortly after the chat ended, something triggered my phone for a profile update. Ever since, my battery has been draining significantly faster and Cell Standby has jumped to the top of my battery list. What did they do to my phone?!?! Ideas? Thanks
