All Sprint acquisition discussion (was "Japan's Softbank in talks for $12.8 bln Sprint stake")

As I mentioned earlier sprint is a done deal for softbank, and probably that's why softbank let sprint make it's move by suing clearwire. We all gonna watch how Son gonna bit Ergen in the final round.

Right I guess that's what happens when you fight dirty. Idk why dish won't pursue tmobile since DT is trying to leave the us market.

Charli wanted sprint and clearwire spectrum and their built network for cheap price. With tmobile he will have to spend more to expand the network and to acquire more airwaves.

Super secret!

From memory, they were 1) merge, 2) pay the fat cats more cash, 3) if not enough votes, wait for more votes

I will need to do this at some point.  I hope all of these votes finally mean something, considering I have piles of various shareholder vote forms from S and CLWR and a few others since this entire fiasco began.

And anyone who reveals them is immediately put on double secret probation.

Looks like Dish is truly surrendering in the Sprint quest.  They are buying back some of their outstanding notes.  Presumably with the cash they had raised earlier this year.

Nothing now but to wait for the FCC to give its blessing.

Edit:

Yes, they are redeeming the same debt they issued earlier this year.

Dish, in a regulatory statement today, didn’t specify why it was pulling out of the bidding. The Englewood, Colorado-based company said it would redeem $2.6 billion of bonds that it had issued in May in connection with its bid.

So it looks like all dish managed to accomplish is to make sprint and softbank use more of the capital paying off shareholders rather than investing in the business. I would be curious if that gets them there network partner they have been after the whole time.

Well it could "week'n" a competitor if dish goes for tmobil.

Here's the transcript from the preliminary hearing on the Sprint suit against DISH and Clearwire. It probably doesn't matter any longer but I found it an interesting read.

http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/strine.pdf

Fascinating reading.

While the whole proceeding is now essentially moot, given Softbank/Sprint's increased tender offer, it is clear that the judge is outright telling Ergen's people that he will reject their so-called tender offer as fraudulent, should they be stupid enough to pursue it. He makes it crystal clear that that DISH's offer blatantly and without precedent violates Sprint's rights as the majority shareholder. His paraphrase of Orwell that DISH seeks to make "some pigs . . . more equal than others" is a real thigh-slapper. [Okay, I have a warped sense of humor.]

While not granting immediate relief to Sprint, he makes absolutely sure that Ergen knows that the DISH offer is doomed should Ergen try to proceed.

I would not want to be Ergen's lawyers, once Ergen finds out what the judge said.

Random but do you think sprint should revamp its plans after all the acquisitions go through. I know sprint has the best value plans on the market compared to its competition but at least it's competitors have different options. I would like for sprint to keep unlimited data but I would like to see them offer data cap plans (2GB) that will be cheaper than the 79.99

Also for family plans it would be cool if they can offer a 700 min everything data shared plan.

I believe we will see a revamped pricing structure that is similar to Tmobile's new plans( with subsidy included of course). I also believe Sprint will follow suit and bundle unlimited text and talking with their new plans.

I believe it will be something along the lines of:

the unlimited talk/text/.5-1Gb data for 60-70,

unlimited talk/text/1.5-2.5Gb data for 70-80,

and unlimited talk/text/data for 80-90.

I also believe tethering will be included in the capped data plans.

I don't see a future where tethering is included in any plans unless Masayoshi changes that (for which I would be grateful.)  I should start using the tethering add-on that I have been paying for though, It just seems all for nought when my coverage is generally spotty where I would wish to tether.

Do what I do, and only add the tethering option when you need it. If I need to tether, I'll add it to my account and then remove it when I'm done. Sprint will prorate it per day. Comes out to like $0.65/day for the 2gb option.

I use the same approach.  Works out pretty well.

    • Excuse my rookie comments here, but after enabling *#73#, it seems that the rainbow sim V2? requires n70 (I turned it off along with n71 - was hoping to track n66) to be available else it switches to T-Mobile.  So this confirms my suspicion that you need to be close to a site to get on Dish.  Have no idea why they don't just use plmn. To test, I put it into a s21 ultra, rebooted twice, came up on T-Mobile (no n70 on s21).  Tried to manually register on 313340, but it did not connect (tried twice). I am on factory unlocked firmware but used a s22 hack to get *#73# working.  Tried what you were suggesting with a T-Mobile sim partially installed, but that was very unstable with Dish ( I think they had figured that one out).  [edit: and now I see Boost sent me a successful device swap notice which says I can now begin to use my new device.  Sigh.  Will try again later and wait for this message - too impatient.]
    • Hopefully this indicates T-Mobile hasn't completely abandoned mmwave and/or small cells? But then again this is the loop, so take that as you will. Hopefully now that most macro activity is done (besides rural colo/builds), they will start working on small cells.
    • This has been approved.. https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/fcc-approves-t-mobiles-deal-to-purchase-mint-mobile/
    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
