S4GRU Robert is on Vacation

S4GRU Members:

I will be on vacation starting tomorrow morning, through Monday, April 15th. I will be on the road, in and out of coverage. I will be very slow to respond to posts, PM's and emails directed to me. I will likely work in triage mode, only tackling the most urgent or easiest to answer.

If you have any issues while I am gone, please contact a Moderator. Here is a link to our staff: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1250-s4gru-staff/ A PM is the best way to reach them. You can always use the report function regarding a post.

We plan on keeping the updates going even while I'm gone. I will be signing in late in the evenings, and some of our staff will be helping too. I will also be able to upgrade donators on the road. There may be a delay at times when I drive out of service. But rest assured it will be taken care of when I get back into coverage.

I appreciate your patience during this time. Please also let other members know if you see them comment that I haven't responded to them, etc.

Thank you to all of you. Without you, there would be no S4GRU and I would be a lonely wireless nerd in a virtual corner all my myself. And many thanks to our dedicated all-volunteer Staff, who tirelessly effort with no pay.

I really need this break. At least, that's what my wife has told me to say as she has a gun to my head. :bang:

Make sure to enjoy your vacation though... much deserved!

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. I encounter too often where project managers at my job "go on vacation" and are forced to continue replying to emails and being involved in projects while they're away to the point of sometimes having to return early. So make sure to have fun man! We'll be here when you return!

Just remember, Robert, if you see Christie Brinkley in a Ferrari, then have a chance to go skinny dipping, yes, it is "crazy," but you should "go for it"...

I had an episode with whiny kids last night that made me nearly do a Chevy Chase scene after he found at Wally World was closed. I nearly lost it. My wife looked at me and said, "Clark!"

Although, Beverly D'Angelo now looks a lot better than I remember the older I get. ;)

    • T-Mobile Will Soon Prevent Early Payoff Of Phones Receiving Bill Credits If you finance a phone with T-Mobile it will remain locked until paid off but now you won't be able to pay off early. If you don't currently purchase your phones from the manufacturer here is another reason it might be a good idea.
    • Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and could potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.  — — — — —  Old permit for this new install expired but a new one was recently issued. It's gonna be similar to the site at 360 Forman St in Brooklyn Heights. Permit calls for only 3 antennas to be installed so I'm assuming it gonna be Band 2/41/66 and n25/41 only which is a bit of a downgrade from the now decommissioned full build that was on 871 7th Ave but in it's current state the nearest macro is a few blocks away and a small cell at Broadway and 55th is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the area so anything helps.
    • Still not seeing any ULS postings for pending T-Mobile UScellular merger in Dane county Wisconsin.
    • Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
